Securing his fifth and sixth victories of the 2014 campaign. In actuality, the Whyteleafe teenager was almost able to celebrate a stunning hat-trick of wins but a penultimate lap bid for the lead in Sunday afternoon’s final race unfortunately went awry when on the limit of adhesion at Brundle.Even so, pole position in qualifying, victory in rounds 15 and 16 and an eventual ninth place finish in round 17, as well as fastest lap in the opening two races, mean Charlie goes into his ‘home’ event at Knockhill in Scotland three weeks from now as the undoubted championship pace-setter.“It’s been a fantastic weekend, two wins is great and a lot of points for the championship is exactly what we wanted to achieve”, said the HHC Motorsport driver, “It’s very disappointing the way race three turned out, we had the pace to win that one as well, but I can’t complain at all – it’s been a really good weekend for us.”Charlie absolutely dominated qualifying on Saturday morning, securing pole position for round 15 over 0.5 seconds clear of his closest rival with a lap time of 1m55.235 seconds (92.75mph) to get the second half of the season off to a perfect start.Even better was to follow in the first race with a supreme performance at the wheel of his Investigo and Blackstar-liveried Ginetta G55. Making a fantastic start, Charlie opened a strong advantage on the run to the first corner and over the course of the first lap he built a lead of two seconds.Setting fastest lap after fastest lap, with the best of all coming on the fifth tour, the 17-year-old increased his lead throughout the 10-lap encounter to eventually finish some 6.4 seconds clear after an exemplary performance.“It was good, I just knew I had to make a good start as that has been my kind of weakness this year really”, reflected Charlie after race one, “I did that, I think I was about three car lengths ahead at the first corner, and I knew if I got my head down and didn’t make any mistakes I could control it. I wasn’t pushing my tyres too hard, I kept it smooth and just controlled things. It was a great race.”Starting round 16 on Sunday morning from pole once again, the action unfolded in a very similar fashion to the first encounter – a fantastic start affording Charlie a great lead straight away. After reeling off another string of fastest laps, he was able to completely control proceedings and went on to take the chequered flag 4.7 seconds clear of his pursuers.Beginning the ‘reverse grid’ third race, round 17, from fourth position, the Scottish teenager again made a sensational getaway from the line and immediately moved into third place before taking second on the inside line at Montreal Hairpin. Contact from former champion Carl Breeze into Palmer didn’t put Charlie off his rhythm for long and he closed up tight behind leader Tom Oliphant.Lap after lap he looked for a way past, eyeing up moves at Riches and the hairpin on more than one occasion, but Oliphant kept the door firmly closed. Then, on lap 11, the leader made a small error as they headed onto Bentley Straight and Charlie was in a position to try and make a move.Side-by-side into the braking zone at Brundle, Charlie had the outside line into the first left-hand section but the rear of the car pitched round. Recovering without drama, he headed to the pits before rejoining the race and finishing in ninth spot.“We definitely had the pace to win race three as well”, he commented, “We were together the whole race and when he [Oliphant] made a mistake going onto the back straight – I had to take the chance. Three wins would have been fantastic but I’m still really pleased with the weekend.”Charlie will make a welcome return to home ground three weeks from now, on 23rd/24th August, when the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup visits Knockhill in Scotland for rounds 18, 19 and 20 of the season. Originating from Aberfoyle in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, the Scottish racer is hoping for some partisan support when the series heads north of the border.Provisional 2014 Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup Driver Standings (after Rd17):1st Charlie Robertson, 440pts
