ADD Motorsports driver Lando Norris put on another brilliant display of pace and precision to make it two wins in consecutive race weekends in the Ginetta Junior Championship.
The 14-year-old followed up a win and a second place at Croft Circuit in June, with another win and second place at the Snetterton Circuit in the sixth round. Performances have continued to improve as the season has progressed, with the results of this latest weekend seeing him up to third in the Championship. And he is hoping to continue in this rich vein of form as he moves onto tracks he has little or no experience on as the season continues.
He said: “It’s a big improvement once again, I’m a lot more confident in what I’m doing and we are getting the results.“The team did a really good job as both me and my teammate James were both really fast which made it easier for us.“Hopefully we can continue with this form for the rest of the season.”
Lando’s pace was there from the word go, finishing first in the two practices ahead of teammate James Kellett - with the two using each other to get the extra pace. But the pace was there when they were alone as well. With the car moving around the hotter the tyre became, it was important to get a good first lap in and that’s just what Lando did in qualifying, finishing in pole for both races.Unfortunately he got off to one of his worst starts this season in Race One, although still managed to stay in second. After two laps he was still in second place behind Kellett when the safety car came out and the race finished with Lando happy to pick up a podium place.
Race Two was much better, despite another poor start. With heavy rain and everyone cautious to begin with, Lando was in second place with pressure from behind. But he made a move going into a hairpin and got in front and soon had a three car lead over second place. When they gained on him, he managed to defend and narrowly got the win in the end – much to his relief. He added: “It was great to get the win, the first race may have been closer as well if the safety car hadn’t come out.
“I need to work on my starts which could have been better in both races, but apart from that it was a really good weekend.“I’m up to third but it will be difficult to catch the leader now.“I’m coming up to tracks I’m not so familiar with so it will be tough, but I just have to keep putting in these performance and see where it gets me.”
