Nurburgring, Race 1

Kimiya Sato (Euronova Racing) captured his sixth win of the year Saturday at the Nürburgring, in Race 1 of the seventh Auto GP round of 2014. The Japanese racer, who started last after experiencing brake issues and ending up off-track in qualifying, also captured his sixth fastest lap so far and had to serve a drive-through penalty for not respecting the yellow flags following an off by Salvatore De Plano (FMS). On the other hand, he wasn't the only driver hit with a penalty.

Virtuosi UK's Tamas Pal Kiss, who was handed the winner's trophy on the podium by Adrien Tambay, was then assessed a 25-second penalty for the same reason. And, in the end, all today's finishers were caught out by the same circumstances. Seven of them, including the revised podium, had to pass through the pits during the race, while the position of Pal Kiss (who maintains second place in standings) and Francesco Dracone required some additional checks from the stewards, resulting in post-race additions to their total times

The top-3 was completed by Kevin Giovesi (FMS) and by pole-sitter Markus Pommer (Super Nova), who had lost the lead at the first corner. The Italian thus moved to third place in standings with 149 points, just one less than Pal Kiss, while Sato is almost untouchable at 208. Rounding out the top 5 behind Pal Kiss was Andrea Roda (Virtuosi UK) and fellow Italian Michela Cerruti (Super Nova). The front row for Race 2, given the reversed top-8 grid, will be shared by Yoshitaka Kuroda (Euronova Racing) and Francesco Dracone (Super Nova)
