KING’S Lynn No.1 Niels-Kristian Iversen has been ruled out for the remainder of the season following his crash in Saturday’s Grand Prix in Gorzow.Iversen suffered extensive knee ligament damage which requires surgery in the accident with Greg Hancock, and it leaves the Stars needing to book guests as they chase the Elite League title.Iversen said: “Unfortunately the season is over for me. My knee is not great after the crash and I will need to have an operation in order to fix it. “I will be back stronger and 100 per cent ready for the start of next season.”

The support classes of 150cc box and 125cc were won by Tom Brennan and Kyle Bickley respectively.British Youth co-boss Neil Vatcher said: “It was a great fifth round, with some excellent racing. Anyone who came here today will have seen that British Speedway has a bright future with some quality young riders in all four classes.”

(SPEEDWAY 3 – SUNDAY REVIEW)

COVENTRY and Leicester shared the points in their home and away Elite League clashes on Sunday – which was enough to move the Bees into the play-off places.Hans Andersen and Chris Harris combined for a last-heat 5-1 at Brandon to secure all three points in a 50-42 win, although recent signing Ben Barker suffered a dislocated shoulder in a Heat 11 crash. The Lions, who were without Jason Doyle due to a shoulder injury of his own, gained revenge with a convincing 54-38 win at the Jordan Road Surfacing Stadium in the evening with skipper Mads Korneliussen and Craig Cook unbeaten until being defeated by Harris in the last race.Coventry boss Gary Havelock said: “In an ideal world I would have liked seven points today, but unfortunately we don’t live in an ideal world!“To be fair, the afternoon meeting was close, and if I’m perfectly honest they probably deserved a point at our place. It happens, and we move on to the next meeting.”Leicester manager Norrie Allan said: “I was pleased with how we approached the return match at Leicester. There was a positive attitude running right through the team and for the first time in five home matches we entered Heat 15 with all three match points safely tucked away. “To face such a good side as Coventry who are one of the most in-form teams of the moment without Jason Doyle was a worrying thought but each and every rider in my team compensated for his absence right from the start.”In the Premier League, Scunthorpe took a step closer to the play-offs with a 53-37 win over Workington inspired by a vintage showing from David Howe, who scored 17 at reserve.Howe was backed up by Ashey Birks on 11+1 whilst Ricky Wells (10+1) and guest Richard Lawson (10) were in double-figures for the Comets.Howe said: “I went down to reserve, not because of my form at the time, but due to the rolling averages – it was because of meetings from last year, and also the start of this year, when I was building things back together.“I went to reserve with confidence, and it’s just galvanized that confidence. I don’t have any fears moving back up into the main body of the team.”Meanwhile Theo Pijper raced to a stunning six-ride maximum to inspire Glasgow to all three points against Rye House in a 48-41 win.Dutchman Pijper combined with Rusty Harrison for a last-heat 5-1 for the Tigers against the Rockets’ top scorers Edward Kennett and Jason Garrity.Glasgow manager Stewart Dickson said: “We targeted any win. I gave Rusty and Theo a target of between 28 and 30 points, but we got a lot more than that between the two of them, which is incredible.“It's a great three points because Plymouth are starting to put a bit of pressure on us now, and we want to try and finish as high up the table as we can.”Rye House boss John Sampford said: “The track was very rough today, and it was all about gating and staying on the bike. Ultimately, the Tigers were more proficient than we were on both counts.”In the National League, Scunthorpe gave their best performance of the season with their youngsters displaying clear improvement by scoring 41 points at home to Stoke. They had been just one point down with five heats to go before the Potters ran out 48-41 winners.Stags top-scorer Sam Chapman (9+1) said: “The team has progressed since the beginning of the year. We’ve had a lot of crashes and a lot of trials, but now we’ve settled down and picked up the pace, and now we’re starting to get the job done.”King’s Lynn also picked up four points on the road with a 53-39 win at Buxton, with former Hitman Luke Priest scoring a match-winning 16+1 as guest for the Young Stars. Home duo Ryan Blacklock (13+1) and Tony Atkin (13) led the way for Buxton.Hitmen manager Jayne Moss said: “We were one rider in real terms. It’s a pity because we could have had something from this match with another seven-point return from someone.”Mildenhall have qualified for the National Trophy Final with a 60-32 win over Leicester, with impressive displays from reserve duo Jack Kingston (15+2) and Connor Mountain (11+2).Fen Tigers Chairman Kevin Jolly said: “The lads have found the winning formula at the right time and we really look like a real team now. “Jack’s return was a real bonus, Robert (Henry) and I stayed close to him all meeting and worked with him. He listened to the advice and is finally coming off the gas at times as well as looking very quick when he needs to.”(SPEEDWAY 4)

LAKESIDE co-promoter Jon Cook accepts his side’s play-off aspirations now hang on the results of other teams – and a home win over Poole on Monday is essential. The Hammers are seeking to end a run of six defeats against the second-placed Pirates, who bring in Bjarne Pedersen and Dakota North to replace the suspended Darcy Ward and the injured Przemyslaw Pawlicki.Cook said: “There's no hiding our disappointment at where we now are in the League table and we need a run of results, including a win at King’s Lynn, to now get a top four place. That's incredibly unlikely but it's impossible unless we take all three of the available League points on Monday evening. “Ironically we are now back to a full team and I hope the riders are out to impress as we now start planning for a 2015 campaign.”Belle Vue boss Jason Attwood says his side can still have a big say in the play-off race, with several of the contenders still to visit Kirkmanshulme Lane.Fourth-placed Coventry provide the opposition on Monday, with the Aces calling up Nathan Greaves to replace the injured Stefan Nielsen at reserve as they continue their fight to avoid ninth spot in the table.Attwood said: “'Unfortunately, as a result of Stefan's injury, we are now effectively a team of six riders fighting for pride against nothing less than title-contending teams in nearly all of our remaining fixtures."But we desperately want to be the spoiler for one, if not all, of them. We want to beat Coventry on Monday, and we really want to be the team to put the cat amongst the pigeons; it's as simple as that, and that's precisely what the fans will expect.”Coventry boss Gary Havelock said: “Belle Vue is always a tough place to go, like all of the small ones, but having said that this year we’ve been pretty good on those tracks.“We won at Wolves and took a point on the other occasion when we should have won, we came from 12 down at Eastbourne to snatch a point, and everyone knows what we did at Lakeside!”Wolverhampton promoter Chris Van Straaten is another man to call on his side to finish the season strongly, as they prepare for a West/East Midlands derby against Leicester at Monmore Green.Wolves bring in Rory Schlein to guest for injured World Champion Tai Woffinden, whilst Leicester are without shoulder injury victim Jason Doyle as they look to improve on their recent defeat on their last visit.Van Straaten said: “We've got two home matches left, against Leicester and Eastbourne, and we need to end on a high note with maximum points if we can.“It's obviously been a disappointing season for us, but we've got two exciting fixtures remaining and we are all desperate to try and get two wins starting against Leicester on Monday.”Leicester boss Norrie Allan said: “I had initially paired Jason Doyle with Sam Masters as they know how each other ride after their time together at Somerset but of course that plan has now been disrupted. “The only positional change with the new averages coming out is that Simon Stead takes over the number five position in the team and deservedly so as he has worked hard to get back to where he was before breaking a leg last year.”

SOMERSET mascot Henry Atkins was crowned British 250cc Intermediate Grasstrack Champion on Saturday – despite being the youngest rider in his class.13-year-old Atkins won all four of his qualifying heats, and under the format his second place in the Final was sufficient to take overall victory at the Fenlands Club.He said: “I still can’t believe it, it is such a great feeling to have won the Championship. There are so many people I would like to thank, all connected with Somerset Speedway for the track time they allow me before and after their home matches - Somerset legend Steve Bishop for all his help and advice, all my sponsors, but most of my dad for all his support in preparing my bikes, driving me up and down the country for meetings, and all his encouragement.”
