Welsh racing driver Seb Morris will be going all-out for victories during the finale of the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup (NEC) at Germany’s Nurburgring this coming weekend, 20th/21st September, as he strives for a top three championship finish – and potentially more besides.Heading into the all-important title decider, the Fortec Motorsport driver is only 15 points adrift of third place in the standings but also just 39 points away from the series lead. With three races to be contested at the weekend, one carried over from the previous round at Most in the Czech Republic where horrendous weather forced its postponement, a total of 90 points will be on offer.While not getting remotely carried away, and striving to simply achieve the best results he can to leave a lasting impression at the end of his maiden season at European level, the 18-year-old from Marford knows the championship is still far from over. Seb has certainly tapped into a rich vein of form of late, taking three podiums from the last three races with the run triggered by his second win of the year at Assen in The Netherlands during round 11. Importantly, going into the Nurburgring event, the Caterham Racing Academy driver also has the confidence of knowing he will start the rescheduled Most race from the front row of the grid.“Hopefully it should be a strong end to the season”, he commented, “We need to make sure we have the pace from testing and then extract as much as we can from the car for qualifying, although it is fantastic going into the weekend knowing we’ll start the first race from second on the grid.“That really is a great boost and it’s up to us to get qualifying right for the other two races, we have to start at the front to have the best chance possible. With the championship as it is, the pressure will be on the other guys hopefully and then we can try and take advantage of that.”After a challenging start to the campaign where issues out of Seb’s control impacted the first few races, the Jack Wills ‘Young Briton’, TAG Heuer ambassador, Oxford Vaughan ambassador and Elite Cymru-supported driver hit back in style during round four with a victory on home soil at Silverstone.Working hard with Fortec mid-season to iron out a few set-up troubles, since that time the MSA Academy racer has been one of the heaviest scorers in the championship which has enabled him to go into the final in with a chance of the title – something he didn’t think possible three events ago.“The car has been great the last few race meetings so we’re confident it’ll be strong again, and the team has been to the Nurburgring already this year with its Eurocup [Formula Renault 2.0] drivers so that gives us a good starting point”, commented Seb.“The tough start to the season made me work even harder to turn things around and when you have times like that, it makes you realise just how nice it is when you win – sometimes you don’t appreciate that enough. I’m hoping we can have a strong end to the year and push to finish in the championship top three, it’s the results at the end of the season everyone remembers.”Race one at Nurburgring will get underway at 14.20 (UK time) on Friday, 19th September, with race two taking place on Saturday, 20th September, at 10.00 (UK time).
