Three races at Brands Hatch on Sunday September 21st will decide the winner of the 2014 Baylis & Harding Porsche Club Championship with Pirelli – the championship closing in style at the Festival of Porsche at the Kent circuit. Pete Morris has led the overall points table since the start of the season, never finishing off the podium in his Strasse-run 996 C2, but now dropped scores come into play and with three races worth of points up for grabs, he could still be overhauled.
Morris has the points in the bag but it has been Hartech’s Tom Bradshaw who was been doing the recent winning, the Bolton racer having taken the last four wins, his title hopes dented by reliability issues earlier in the season. Taking on the 996s at the front have been Mark Sumpter and Adrian Slater in the Paragon Porsches – getting amongst the newer cars in their 1980s 964s, Sumpter having taken three wins going into Brands second in class one.
Reigning champion John McCullagh has stepped up to class one for 2014, taking over the Hartech Boxster S used by Bradshaw last season, and is due a podium finish, while former champion Mark McAleer will be another to watch for in the races.
The class two battle has been fierce, Stuart Ings moving ahead of Mark Koeberle for class honours and second overall with two wins at Oulton Park last time out. Ings won at Brands at the start of the season, but with along with class winner Andy Toon, all three will be chasing race wins and points.
The 2014 Porsche Club Championship season opened at Brands Hatch back in May, and as a form guide to Sunday’s action that meeting saw overall race wins for Bradshaw and Morris. After an early safety car period Bradshaw pulled away, only to be chased down by Morris in the final laps and just staying clear to open the season with a win. Morris took advantage of Bradshaw pulling off on the green flag lap in race two to take his first win of 2014, while in class two Ings claimed both sets of maximum points.
It will be a busy day with qualifying and all three races on Sunday – but the racing combined with a vast range of Porsches new and old on display should make Brands Hatch the place to be!
