Flashman aims to keep progressing at Silverstone

Young autistic racing driver Flashman Finneran will look to maintain his recent progress when the Ginetta Junior Championship heads for Silverstone this weekend for the penultimate meeting of the year. The Newmarket racer heads to the Northamptonshire circuit having shown solid pace during the most recent event on the calendar at Rockingham earlier this month. There, the 14-year-old looked set to challenge for one of his best results of the season only for a spin in the second race of the weekend to drop him down the order. With the 2014 season being Flashman’s first in car racing after a successful career in karting, this weekend will mark his first race outing at the Home of British Motorsport, although he has had the opportunity to drive at the circuit in recent weeks. On the back of a solid day on track alongside driver coach Eugene O’Brien, Flashman will hope to continue his bid to move forwards into the midfield pack in the highly competitive championship, with his target remaining to break into the top ten for the first time. “Silverstone is another circuit that I have had to learn but it is one where it should be easier to get up to speed when I get to the race weekend than it was at somewhere like Rockingham,” he said. “There aren’t a lot of corners and some long straights so I have to try and keep my speed up in the bends as much as I can. “I think I showed some good pace in the last round and if I can do that again this weekend then I can try and score some good points. I still haven’t managed to finish in the top ten but I hope I can this weekend.”
