In 2014, Max Defourny has launched quite a challenge by competing in several car championships. Already used to travelling around Europe when he competed successfully in karting, the young Belgian driver has again demonstrated his talent and adaptability in his recent outings in France and Belgium. Coming close to victory in the French F4 Championship at Nogaro, he was in the spotlight the following week at the legendary Spa Francorchamps circuit by taking a podium at the "Racing Festival" in Formula Renault 1.6 NEC Junior.
A formidable competitor, Max Defourny has experienced high emotion in recent weeks. Firstly at the end of September, in the French F4 Championship organized by the Auto Sport Academy, the International Training Centre of the French Motor Sports Federation. Ranked 10th in Race 1, he created a sensation in Race 2 after starting from pole position, where he held on at the top of the hierarchy for 11 of the 14 laps, until he went off the track during a missed overtaking attempt. Admittedly, he was later penalised, but that doesn't take away Max's lead! "It's a shame. I kept a good pace in the lead and I thought I would really be able to win," admitted the disappointed Belgian driver.
Max entered the Championship to gain further experience in this competition which has revealed many champions.
Podium with panacheThe following week, Max Defourny joined the Lechner Racing School team at the circuit of Spa-Francorchamps, where he finished fifth and third in succession a few months ago. Fierce determination and a desire to wipe out the disappointment of Nogaro were palpable in the driver. Once again, Max progressed significantly over the meeting, among more experienced drivers. Consistent in qualifying, he showed himself capable of holding his sixth place starting position until the chequered flag in Race 1. In Race 2 there was rain in Belgium. "Driving to the limit without making a mistake is never easy in these conditions," acknowledged Max. "But I had a good feeling with the car and I managed to improve my times lap after lap. I immediately felt that the podium was within reach now." Eventually, Max was rewarded for his efforts with the third place finish. A gift a few days after celebrating his 16th birthday!
Max Defourny will go into the last events of the season in F4 and Formula Renault 1.6 NEC Junior with confidence and an even stronger mind.
