Karting Ace Fowlie Wins Henry Surtees Challenge Prize Test

Highly-rated Scottish kart racer Kyle Fowlie has scooped a prize test in one of Hillspeed’s BRDC Formula 4 Championship cars after an impressive top four performance during a rain-hit fourth annual Henry Surtees Challenge, which took place at Buckmore Park on Wednesday, 8th October.Established in memory of the late Henry Surtees, son of four-time World Motorcycling Champion and 1964 Formula One World Champion John Surtees OBE, the yearly karting extravaganza – which attracts the cream of British talent – is an increasingly important date on the sport’s calendar.Hathersage-based Hillspeed is a key supporter of the Henry Surtees Challenge, which raises funds for the Henry Surtees Foundation, and the team is now looking forward to providing Fowlie with his first experience of BRDC F4 machinery.“Hillspeed is always incredibly proud to support the Henry Surtees Challenge, it’s a fantastic event and does wonderful charity work”, commented team principal Richard Ollerenshaw, “It’s quite clear Kyle is a very promising young talent and we’re pleased he selected our BRDC F4 test prize. Everyone at the team is looking forward to testing him in the car at some point in the next couple of months.“The racing at Buckmore was absolutely fantastic, but when you have drivers the calibre of Jack Aitken [2014 Henry Surtees Challenge Winner], Ben Barnicoat, Matt Parry and Seb Morris involved you know you’re going to get proper racing of the highest standard. It was a superb event once again and a real credit to the hard work of John [Surtees] and his team.”Aberdeenshire-based Fowlie, who resides in Stuartfield, has enjoyed a glittering karting career and is a seven-time Scottish Junior Karting Champion. Additionally, he became Vice-Champion of the 2012 Super 1 National Rotax Max Junior Karting Championship and a year later sealed the Vice-Champion position in the Senior Rotax Max Euro Challenge.Reflecting on the event and Hillspeed’s continued support of the Henry Surtees Challenge, John Surtees commented: “Hillspeed has been very supportive of us from the very start and I think this prize test will give Kyle a superb opportunity. He’s had a lot of success in karting and I thought his driving was extremely impressive at Buckmore, in both the wet and the dry.“The most important thing this year was the quality of the grid, it meant getting any success at all was incredibly tough for any of the drivers. I think the [BRDC F4] prize test for Kyle is very good for him and the team as well – Hillspeed has a foot in more than one camp and competes in a number of categories with success. This is a great opportunity for Kyle to try and take his career forward.”Hillspeed congratulates Morris on second McLaren Autosport BRDC Award finals berthRenowned as one of the foremost teams in UK motorsport, Hillspeed has played an important role in the formative careers of many of the country’s top young racing drivers and one of those, Seb Morris, has been named as a finalist for this year’s McLaren Autosport BRDC Award.Regarded as the most prestigious accolade of its kind, the annual award shoot-out between six of the most highly-rated young British single-seater drivers carries an impressive prize package, including a substantial six figure cash prize and a Formula One test with McLaren.Morris, who won the 2011 Ginetta Junior Winter Series title and 2012 main season Ginetta Junior crown for Hillspeed, as well as becoming BRDC F4 Vice-Champion for the team in 2013, has been named a McLaren Autosport BRDC Award finalist for a second successive year.“We enjoyed many years of success with Seb, in both Ginetta and BRDC F4, and everyone at the team wishes him the very best of luck for this year’s McLaren Autosport BRDC Award”, commented Ollerenshaw, “It’s fantastic to have played a part in Seb’s early career and we’ve no doubt at all he’ll make another big impact in the Award finals this year.”Hillspeed’s next track action comes this weekend, 11th/12th October, at Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit in Kent for the final two rounds of the Ginetta Junior Championship season.
