Albatec Makes Father, Son History In World RX Of Turkey

Albatec Racing made history today in round 11 of the FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy at the stunning Intercity Istanbul Park. Making his World RX debut, and thereby securing the series’ first ever father-and-son line-up, reigning British RX150 Champion Marc Scott followed his father Andy home to a stirring 1-2 finish in their first head-to-head appearance aboard the Dumfries team’s pair of 600bhp Peugeot 208 Supercars.

One of four qualifying races for tomorrow’s all-important finals, their results in heat two followed an eventful opening race for both the 2011 MSA British Rallycross Vice-Champion and his 28 year-old son, that saw them both succumb to the unforgiving nature of the track barriers, finishing 12th and 14th fastest. The combined results however sets them up for a good overall position in the overnight intermediate standings, where they currently lay in the crucial top 12; Team Principal Andy 11th and Marc 12th.

Although no stranger to Supercars, having made an impressive debut in the final domestic series at Croft last year, this weekend marks the double British Rallycross RX150 Champion’s first competitive outing aboard former F1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve’s two-litre 16v Peugeot 208, and highlights the Lochmaben driver’s undoubted talents behind the wheel. For Team Principal Andy, an appearance in tomorrow’s 12-car semi finals would bring his tally to five from the seven rounds contested, with a maiden appearance in the six-car final still his target.

Making its first appearance in Asia, and only its second race outside of Europe, the hotly contested World RX series continue tomorrow at the F1 track near Istanbul, which has been specially modified for the new IMG-promoted rallycross series. Track action gets underway with warm-up at 09:30, ahead of heat three from 11:00, and heat four at 12:30. Two six-lap semi finals shown live on Eurosport will take place at 15:00 ahead of the final at approximately 15:30.

Further information, live timing and live streaming (country-dependent), is available from www.rallycrossrx.com, with UK viewers able to watch the action live on Eurosport from 1pm (UK time). (All other times local, note Turkey is two hours ahead of the UK).

Andy Scott, Team Principal and driver Albatec Racing #26 :

“It’s been an eventful first day here in Turkey, but what an amazing track. It’s incredibly technical, a slightest mistake costs valuable time and it certainly favours drivers who are clean and tidy, there’ll be no fluke results this weekend that’s for sure. My lap time were good, but I lost around nine seconds in the second heat, which cost me probably a top eighth fastest time, but overall I’m happy to be in the top 12 after two heats.

“Marc has done an incredible job today, learning a new car, on a new track, against the very best in the business. He too had some back luck in both his heats, but has come through it well despite the damage sustained to put in a very strong performance. Here’s hoping we can both get two good clean races tomorrow and make it through.”

Marc Scott, driver Albatec Racing #122 :

“I’ve have had an amazing time here in Turkey, what a steep learning curve, although World RX is certainly matching my expectations. It’s a very technical track, absolutely amazing, but it’s tough learning the car and the track while all the time getting to grips with all these world class rallycross racers. I’ve improved my lap times every time I’ve been out though, so I’m certainly heading in the right direction.

“We sustained quite a bit of damage in both heats, which the boys are working on now. It’s not a very forgiving track, and tomorrow I need to build up the speed and be more consistent and hopefully get a couple of clean heats without any mistakes. I’m loving it though, I really am, the whole experience, the car, the track, the team, the entire World RX set-up is superb.”
