The British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) is delighted that three of its protégés have received a significant career boost by being appointed to the 2015 FIA Institute Young Driver Excellence Academy.Arguably the most prestigious international driver development scheme within the sport, the FIA Institute Young Driver Excellence Academy comprised six selection events around the world, each of which yielded a regional winner. Additionally, six external 'wildcards' were chosen to form the initiative's 2015 crop of outstanding talent.Amongst them are former British F3 Champion Jordan King, 20, Formula Renault 2.0 NEC front-runner Seb Morris, 19, and reigning Formula Renault BARC Champion Pietro Fittipaldi, the 18-year-old grandson of two-time Formula 1 World Champion Emerson Fittipaldi. King and Morris are the only two British representatives in what is a truly cosmopolitan group.King won the North Eastern Europe shoot-out, with Morris and Fittipaldi both earning their places as wildcards – and all three drivers have risen through the ranks with the BARC.King was a pole-sitter and podium-finisher in Formula Renault UK during his rookie car racing campaign in 2011 and clinched the British F3 crown two years later; Morris scooped the spoils in the Ginetta Junior Winter Series, Ginetta Junior Championship and Formula Renault Winter Series and was a prolific race-winner in Formula Renault BARC; whilst Fittipaldi was the dominant force in this year's Formula Renault BARC contest, lifting the drivers' laurels in only his second season away from his Brazilian homeland.The 2015 Academy members have already completed their first workshop, being put through their paces at Edinburgh University in an activity that placed the focus firmly on sport science, fitness and education.The Academy provides a fully-funded training programme and structured learning environment targeted at helping drivers to continuously develop their motor sport careers, whilst actively promoting the principles of safety, fairness and responsibility both on and off the track. Participants receive expert tutelage and advice from performance managers Alex Wurz and Robert Reid.BARC General Manager Ian Watson admits he is proud to see three drivers who cut their teeth in the Club's championships accelerating so rapidly up the motor racing ladder.“To see Jordan, Seb and Pietro recognised for their potential by no less an organisation than the FIA – the world governing body of motor sport – is fantastic news,” he acknowledged. “Jordan added his name to an illustrious list when he won the British F3 title, and following an extremely promising GP2 Series test last month, he looks set to take a further step towards his ultimate F1 goal next season.“Seb proved his pedigree in winning the Ginetta Junior Championship aged just 15, and his record of success since then has only served to underline that he has a bright future in the sport – to be selected as a McLaren AUTOSPORT BRDC Award finalist two years in a row is no mean feat!“Pietro, meanwhile, was a revelation this season, and thoroughly deserved his resounding Formula Renault triumph. He is already demonstrating that he has inherited more than a few of the famous family genes, and as with Jordan and Seb, we are confident that he is destined for great things.
