Mealin completes Lanan Racing line-up for Duo BRDC Formula 4

Chris Mealin will join double title-winners Lanan Racing in the 2015 Duo BRDC Formula 4 Championship, graduating from the Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain. The Manx driver completes the team’s line-up, with rookie Jack Bartholomew and series returnee Rodrigo Fonseca already confirmed.

Mealin finished third in the Formula Ford Scholarship class last season with 12 podiums, including victories at Brands Hatch and Oulton Park. He was also awarded the 2014 ‘Dunlop Spirit Award’ for his dedication to motorsport training and development throughout the season. At the beginning of the year, Mealin’s talent was recognised by McLaren Applied Technologies Performance Academy, as he was invited to take part in a three-day course filled with educational workshops and physical training sessions, focusing on driver fitness, pre-race preparation, race performance and post-race review and recovery.

The 21-year-old began his motorsport career racing karts locally on the Isle of Man in late 2007, finishing second in the Honda Junior Championship in 2008, his first year of competitive racing. He continued his development in the Honda Senior category and he competed in the Le Mans 24 Hours kart race, finishing third in class in 2012.

Mealin also took his first steps in car racing in 2012, taking part in a select number of races in the 750 Motor Club Stock Hatch Championship and the European Late Model Series in Holland. Two wins at Venray and Lydden Hill were the highlight of a 2013 campaign in the Late Model V8 Supercup before Mealin progressed into the Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain for 2014.

He joins Lanan Racing for 2015, who won the driver's title in the first two seasons of BRDC F4, with Jake Hughes successful in 2013 and McLaren Autosport BRDC Award winner George Russell proving victorious last year.

Mealin said: "Joining Lanan Racing and BRDC F4 is a great move for me. They are the only team I wanted to join and I have to thank them for giving me the opportunity to demonstrate my talent. My aim is to finish in the top three of the championship as a minimum but my main goal is to win the title."

Team Principal Graham Johnson added: “Chris had a testing year in Formula Ford last year. We gave him a run out in our BRDC F4 car at Oulton Park recently however and he showed an impressive turn of speed. I am sure given our team environment that he will establish himself as a front-runner in Formula 4 over the course of the 2015 season.”
