Positive first outing at MP Motorsport for Spaniard Sergio Canamasas during yesterday´s collective testing at Bahrain International Circuit. In the morning he scored 7th fastest time and then in the afternoon DRS issues compromised his test programme.
Sergio Canamasas has had a positive debut with MP Motorsport, the team with which the Spaniard is taking part in the GP2 Series collective testing this week, as he finished seventh in this morning session. Despite it was his very first day with the Dutch team, and on a dusty track, Canamasas even topped the timesheets for a while, bettering André Negrao´s lap time. Finally he took 7th spot by setting a best lap of 1:42.800 and completing fourteen laps. In the second test session his car experienced some DRS issues and his test programme got compromised. Besides, when Canamasas was on his flying lap on fresh tires, the session was red-flagged and he couldn´t improve his best time of 1:44.630.
Shortly after the day came to an end, Canamasas explained that “it was a very helpful day. In the morning the asphalt was quite dusty but under the same conditions to all, I was able to finish seventh. Then in the second test session our DRS issues prevented us from having more mileage, only eight laps. Last but not least red flags were waved when I was trying to set my first flying lap on fresh tires. But I´m pleased with our work done today”. For tomorrow, Canamasas expects “a very tough day ahead as we have planned to work on tire compounds. If there strong winds, track will get dusty again, and it makes our work more complicated”.
