The 2015 GP2 series gets underway this weekend at the Sakhir International Circuit, Bahrain. This year the Series will comprise of 10 rounds following the cancellation of the German round.
Racing Engineering will start the season with two new drivers, Jordan King from Great Britain and the American Alexander Rossi. Alexander already has GP2 experience having raced in the Series for the last two years, taking his maiden win in 2013, although this will be his first full season in the category. Jordan will have his first GP2 race in Bahrain but he has already proven his talent by winning the British Formula 3 Championship and he has been setting some very competitive times in pre-season testing.
For this weekend Pirelli will be providing both the P Zero White medium and P Zero Yellow soft tyres, however since the pre-season testing at the circuit saw the medium and supersoft tyres used all the teams will be have no data to draw on for the soft compound. With two races over the weekend, as well as Free Practice and Qualification, selection of the tyres and when to use them will be crucial to success. New this season for GP2 will be the use of DRS (Drag Reduction System) similar to that used in F1 and, although all the drivers have had experience of this new innovation in testing it, will be their first experience of it under race conditions.
