Maxi Endurance sees Prototype class interest rise for second season

The second edition of Maxi Endurance 32h will feature a larger grid spurred on by a significant growth in Prototype entry numbers. Recently, former Le Mans, Daytona and Sebring winner, Briton Andy Wallace, was confirmed to drive one of the Parkalgar Team-entered Radical SR3 RS cars. Now new names, both drivers and teams, emerge as contenders at the Maxi Endurance event taking place at Autódromo do Algarve on 21-22 November.

Without doubt, a real eye-catcher will be the Speed Factory Racing Ligier LMP3, sponsored by Team Icer Brakes, and contesting the Sprint Endurance Cup 3,2. Malaga-born driver Álvaro Fontes, who was crowned in the Spanish GT Series in 2012, is already confirmed at the wheel of the French LMP3 car built by Onroak Automotive. To the delight of the crowd at the Autódromo do Algarve, new names will join the driver line-up before long.

In addition to Ligier commitment, Fontes will also drive a SEAT León Cup Racer for the 32-hour race as it is drawn up by sporting regulations. The Spanish driver expects to be in podium contention at the end of the race.

Similarly, Italy´s Emotion Motorsport will enter two Wolf GB 08 cars, one for the Maxi

Endurance 32h and the second contesting the Sprint Endurance Cup 3,2. Emotion Motorsport will announce their driver line-up in the next days but there is at least one of the pilots bearing an illustrious surname from Formula 1.

Prototype class includes second car from Parkalgar Team. The first SR3 RS will be shared by Wallace and factory drivers James Abbott and Roger Green and they aim to win the Maxi Endurance 32h. But at the same time, the Portuguese outfit will field another SR3 RS in the Sprint Endurance Cup 3,2.

There are some drivers making their second appearance in the Maxi Endurance 32h, including Javi Villa or Ángel Burgueño. Villa, who took three victories in GP2, and Burgueño, former European Le Mans Series champion in LMP2 class, led for many hours last year before their car was hit with mechanical problems. Two other Spaniards, Mikel Azcona and Salvador Tineo, shall drive a Prototype car next November.

The deadline for entries is on 10th November and the majority of the teams will opt to announce their drivers after that date.
