Trident set for thrilling GP2, GP3 season finale at Abu Dhabi

The Trident staff and drivers had almost no time to rest after last weekend’s trip to Bahrain as the team is already bracing for the final outing of the season at Abu Dhabi. The activity has so far been frantic in order to transfer the tools, materials and machinery to the Emirates in order to be ready to challenge. And for Trident the coming one will be an exciting yet really tense weekend. The two final races of the GP3 Series will be key in deciding who will be the 2016 champion. Trident’s Luca Ghiotto is the leading candidate, sitting at the top of the driver standings. The Italian relied on a brilliant race 2 win at Al Sakhir to reclaim the lead with a 2-point gap over Frenchman Esteban Ocon. The confrontation will likely end with the last lap of the last race thanks to the series’ scoring system offering 48 points throughout the weekend. Nonetheless, Ghiotto showcased his speed skills in Bahrain by scoring his fourth win of the season and the fastest lap of both races. Independently from how it will end up, Trident confirmed their frontrunner team status with a positive performance and remarkable results, and that include the steady growth of rookie Arthur Janosz. At Abu Dhabi the GP3 team will once again be completed by Michele Beretta, who is getting more and more chemistry with a completely new car for him. The Yas Marina track will also host the final round of the GP2 Series. Last weekend, Raffaele Marciello proved he’s at the top of his game with a brilliant third place in qualifying and a double top-5. For the whole Trident team, Abu Dhabi will be a valuable chance to highlight the progress made from the Russian round at Sochi onwards. Marciello will once again be partnered by Dutchman Daniel De Jong, who quickly merged with the team at Al Sakhir. The weekend at the Yas Marina track will be starting on Friday with the opening GP2 and GP3 Series practice. Qualifying for the GP3 Series will start at 15:10 local time while the GP2 will be on-track under artificial lights at 19:10. Racing will begin on Saturday, with Race 1 of the GP3 Series at 12:25, followed by the GP2 Series later in the afternoon at 18:40. The GP3 Series will be out on-track first on Sunday 2 with Race 2 scheduled for 13:00, while the GP2 Series finale will go underway at 14:20. Qualifying and the races will benefit from a worldwide coverage plan including Sky Sport in Italy and in the United Kingdom. (Local times, GMT+4).
