Jane clocks up 350 V8 Ute starts at Sydney street race

Kim “The Assassin” Jane will celebrate his 350th Race start when he takes to the streets of Sydney Olympic Park for Race 2 and the final round of the 2015 East Coast Bullbars Australian V8 Ute Racing Series at the Coates Hire Sydney 500 4-6 December.

Jane debuted in the Series in 2003 after claiming the AUSCAR Championship title and has raced in the Series ever since.

“I’ve always seen the category with enormous potential, I’ve really enjoyed the series, I’ve made a lot of great friends and it’s a happy place to keep coming back to and race in. I can’t think of a series where you get more bang for your dollar and it’s so relevant to the Australian people,” said Jane.

Nephew of Bathurst Champion Bob, motor racing is thick in the family blood but Jane has made his own achievements including being the first driver to reach the 350 race milestone in the V8 Ute Racing Series securing the “true veteran” of the Series title and he is still in for a chance to take out this year’s championship.

“Even though we’re a mathematical chance of the Championship performing well and getting most out of the car will be our main focus, It’s a shame about our performance at Bathurst, those two races that put us so far behind but we just have to keep bouncing back and get good results,” said Jane.

Over the years Jane has not only competed in the Championship events but also the non-championship events such as the Trans-Tasman Challenge held in New Zealand in 2006 and 2010, just narrowly missing the title to Chris Pither in the 2010 showdown, he also drove in the two driver event at the Clipsal 500 to celebrate the 10th year of the Series, teaming up with Steve Owen.

He has driven alongside a lot of drivers over the years including Country Singer Adam Brand, TV Personality Grant Denyer, Ian McAlister, Andrew Miedecke and the late Alan Simonsen to name a few.

“It’s been a lot of fun over the years and there’s been a lot of people who have stayed in the Series, look at Ryal Harris now a mature driver and looking like he might take out his third championship he’s grown up through the series, a lot of friends have come and gone like Ian McAlister and Alan Simonsen who passed away at LeMans all the people who have been in series the last 13 or 14 years it’s just been fantastic and hopefully we’ll be around a bit longer and break a record no one else can break,” explained the Victorian.

Jane has stood on the championship podium twice over his 12 years in the Series 3rd overall in 2007 and 2nd overall in 2008. He’s had round wins at five different tracks including Eastern Creek, QLD Raceway, Hidden Valley Raceway, Barbagallo Raceway and his home-track Sandown Raceway, which he debuted on when he was 17years old in a Holden, a track man he is yet to secure a podium at a street race. He’s hoping this weekend and his 350th celebration will be what he needs to break his street circuit drought.

“I’ll definitely try a little bit harder to win it. We’ve had our ups and downs at Sydney but generally we’ve been pretty quick so hopefully we can get our act together and perform well and take home a win,” said Jane.

Jane has also clocked up a total of 18 podium finishes, 3 pole awards and 14 race wins over his V8 Ute career.

Jane will hit the track on Friday, 4th December to kick off the final round of the 2015 Season around the streets of Sydney, with a practice and qualifying session following by Race 1, Saturday and his 350th race at 8:15am Sunday.
