Lando Norris reveals Formula Renault 2.0 and BRDC F4 plans for 2016

MSA Formula Champion Lando Norris will battle for more silverware on two fronts in 2016.

The 16-year-old Somerset driver has joined Josef Kaufmann Racing to compete in the dual programme of Euro Cup and NEC in Formula Renault 2.0.

He also teams up with Carlin once again, this time for six races in next season’s BRDC F4.

And despite having had little rest since his brilliant victory in the inaugural season of the MSA Formula Championship, the ADD Motorsports racer can’t get wait to get going again.

He said: “I’m really excited to be working with Josef Kauffman Racing next year, but equally happy to be back with Carlin again after the brilliant season we’ve just had.

“We’ve done some testing with Josef Kaufmann which I really enjoyed and was always in the Top 3, so I’m looking forward to continuing with the team next season.

“I’m also really pleased to be back with Carlin and my engineer Stefan de Groot after winning the title with them.

“We’re hoping to be right up there again and competing for trophies on both fronts.”

Lando notched up eight wins on his way to becoming this season’s FIA Formula 4 Champion of Great Britain, reaffirming his status as one of the world’s most exciting young drivers.

He signed-off from his glittering karting career in 2014 as the youngest ever World Championship winner when he took the CIK FIA KF crown, also finishing third in the Ginetta Junior Championship and taking the Rookie Cup.

Many expected him to continue his career in F3 for the 2016 season – especially after successful tests.

But performance team ADD Motorsports believe competing in BRDC F4 – where he is the first driver to be announced in Carlin’s inaugural line-up in the Championship - and Formula Renault 2.0, is the best path for him to follow as he continues to develop on and off the track.

Director Mark Berryman said: “Lando is still really young and was only 16 a few weeks ago – many people forget that - so we felt there’s no rush.

“He’s smaller physically and we didn’t want to go into F3 at a disadvantage due to his strength.

“Instead, we’re looking forward to a season with the successful Josef Kaufman Racing where he can keep learning and strengthening in certain areas.

“But it also gives us the chance to keep our brilliant relationship going with Trevor Carlin and Stefan de Groot that served Lando so well this season.”

Lando dominated the final day of the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 winter tests at Circuit Paul Ricard last weekend. He came out top in both sessions and will now continue with further tests privately. The pre-selected teams will be announced on 15 December.
