BRITISH Speedway's National League will welcome two new clubs in 2016.The sport will return to the Isle of Wight’s Smallbrook Stadium after a two-year absence with the newly branded ‘Warriors’.And Belle Vue will enter a Colts team into the third tier based at their new home, the National Speedway Stadium in Manchester.

The news means 12 clubs will come to the tapes next season in what promises to be an exciting time for the league which encourages the development of young British riders.

Club bosses held their AGM at the British Speedway HQ in Warwickshire on Wednesday and they set a new team building limit of 40-points per club.In a dramatic move they have also scrapped all tactical rides – and the league title will revert back to the play-off system involving the top four clubs at September 25.

Other key points were:National Trophy North: Birmingham, Buxton, Stoke. South: Isle of Wight, Kent, Mildenhall. Winners of each group to contest final.National League fixtures to be made available by late January to take into account those riders also involved in Elite League and Premier League meetings.

Knockout Cup draw to be made before Christmas.Major Events: NL Fours – Coventry – Sunday August 14.NL Pairs – King’s Lynn – Date TBC mid-summer.NLRC – new venue in September.

National League co-ordinator Peter Morrish: “It was a very positive AGM and we are now looking forward to the 2016 season.“Last season was a success for the National League, it was a good league, there wasn’t a weak link.“The major honours were spread around and I’m confident the same will apply in 2016.“We are delighted to welcome back the Isle of Wight, it’s great to see the sport back there, plus of course the exciting developments at Belle Vue.“But it’s also nice to see the return of all last season’s clubs for what promises to be a very exciting season.”
