Harris dominates Sydney 500 V8 Ute Qualifying

Ryal Harris has taken out the ARMOR ALL Pole Award and $1000 cash, increasing his Series lead at Round 8 of the 2015 East Coast Bullbars Australian V8 Ute Racing Series at the Coates Hire Sydney 500, Friday, 4th December.

Running without success ballast as it doesn’t apply for the final round, Harris put in the fastest time right from the start, but mid-session reigning Champion Kris Walton came back to take the top spot for 2 laps, until his fellow Gold Coaster responded with a 1:44.3727.

Harris remained fastest the entire session, adding an extra three points to his championship lead and will start on Pole tomorrow for Race 1 alongside teammate and second in the ARMOR ALL Drivers Championship George Miedecke. This is Harris’s first pole for the year and he couldn’t have thought of a better way to kick off the final round.

“I will take the three points, the weight coming off has helped a bit but the biggest difference this weekend is that I’m so relaxed, I’ve never been this relaxed at a race meeting ever and I was just so chilled was so chilled in that session,” explained the two-time Champion.

He’s also feeling confident about the weekend ahead.

“We know what we need to do I’ve been in this position before and I’ve never wanted It as much as this, it’s what making me relaxed, I’m just going to do what I do and get it done, It will just comme down to the car surviving the first two races if we’re 70points ahead coming into Race 3 we will take out our third Championship,” said Harris.

Rentco Racing’s Walton dropped back to third in the final minutes of the session ahead of the Multispares Ford of Ryan Hansford, ahead of Rhys McNally, the first Holden over the line that topped the time sheets earlier in the day in Practice

David Sieders Holden was sixth, Just Car Racing’s Craig Dontas in seventh, Burbank Racing’s Nathan Pretty in eighth and Championship contenders Adam Marjoram and Gerard McLeod rounded out the top ten. McLeod hit the wall late in qualifying; however will be back on track for Race 1 tomorrow morning.

Queenslander Cam Wilson also went too hot into turn 5 and hit the wall hard, doing major damage to his Slideways/ Go Karting Australia Ford. He was running 16th fastest at the time; however the team face a long night getting the Ute ready for tomorrow.

Miedecke now trails Harris by 88 Points heading into Race 1 tomorrow however there are still 210 points up for grabs over the weekend.
