Lando Norris moved to the top of the leaderboard after a brilliant performance of pace and power in the New Zealand Toyota Racing Series.
The 16-year-old Somerset racer finished with another win and two second places at Teretonga Park Raceway.
And after poles in each of his four qualifiers across the two weekends so far, the MSA Formula champion racing for M2 Competition is clearly enjoying himself.
He said: “It went pretty well. I made a little mistake in the first race which left me second, but I couldn’t have done much more in the next two.
“We’ve been really fast and four poles in qualifying is really good.
“It’s great to be at the top of the leaderboard already, but there are a lot of points to be had in each race, so there’s a long way to go.”
Lando topped most of the practice sessions, despite the ever-changing weather.
With two red flags, the young racer could not get in many laps during the first qualifier – but still managed the fastest lap. Red flags interrupted the second qualifier as well – but the result remained the same.
Race one again saw some red flags, with lots of stopping and starting. With two laps to go one of his restarts was slightly off, losing him a place and leaving him second at the end.
Race two saw Lando start in third position, thanks to the unusual reverse grid that saw the winner of the previous race pick how many cars would be involved in the reverse grid from numbers in a hat.
A good start saw him move into second, but despite a few attempts he was unable to push on any further, again settling for a second-place finish.
Lando saved his best for last, managing to power to a four second gap from the off early on in the third race.
After a safety car, Lando got off to another great restart and soon had a three second gap, and then managed to motor into a two second gap again after a third safety car.
It left him with a deserved victory and extra points for two fastest laps over the three races. He now leads the rest of the field by 34 points.
He added: “I’ve improved on my start a lot already and hope to keep improving over the time I’m here.
“It’s a good start, but now it’s about keep the consistency over the weekends.”
