The FIA TGP Championship will welcome FIA President, Max Mosley and 1979 Ferrari World Champion, Jody Scheckter as their guests of honour when they meet for the TGP annual awards luncheon at the prestigious RAC Club, Pall Mall on November 27th.
As FIA President since 1991 and one of the most powerful men in motorsport, Mosely’s appearance at the TGP event is yet further recognition of the championship’s position as the world’s premier historic motorsport series and as the only historic grand prix race formula recognised by world motorsport’s governing body.
Scheckter, a star in the GP world at the time many of the TGP cars were in action, will present trophies to the 2004 FIA TGP Champion, Rodrigo Gallego and the other TGP prize winners. Jody’s links with TGP are strong. An early association with Championship Organiser, Stuart McCrudden saw Scheckter race McCrudden’s Escort Mexico to victory at Cadwell Park shortly after arriving in the UK from South Africa. As a McLaren driver, Jody raced cars designed by current TGP Technical Delegate, Gordon Coppuck at McLaren before joining Tyrrell where he drove and won in, among others, the 6-wheeled P34 as campaigned in TGP by Mauro Pane. Appropriately enough, members of the Tyrrell family will also be at the RAC Club event as guests of TGP star, John Delane, who races the Tyrrell Family-owned type 001 in TGP.
"It’s a great honour to have both the President of the FIA and an F1 World Champion with us to celebrate what has been a truly great year for TGP" says Oli McCrudden, Championship Co-ordinator. "Our drivers have raced long and hard this season and have put on a great show wherever they have been, from the first race in Bahrain to the final at Estoril. Our awards ceremony is in recognition of real racers driving real racing cars and we are delighted to be able to welcome two real motorsport thoroughbreds, Messrs. Mosley and Scheckter, to our celebration."
