Hillspeed with Cliff Dempsey Racing has today (24 October) announced that it will run Omani driver Abdullah Al Rawahi and Thai racer Sasakorn ‘Cutter’ Chaimongkol in the upcoming Duo BRDC British Formula 3 Autumn Trophy at Snetterton (29/30 October).Al Rawahi will be making his first foray into single-seaters after a successful karting career which has led the youngster to compete in both Middle Eastern and top-level international events. In 2012, Al Rawahi claimed the Rotax Max Challenge UAE Junior Max title and soon moved up to European racing. In 2015, he competed in the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals and represented his country once again in the same competition this year, when the event was held in Naples, Italy.Al Rawahi will become the second Omani driver to compete in the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship, following in the wheel-tracks of Al Faisal Al Zubair who drove for Fortec Motorsports in this year’s main championship.
Chaimongkol meanwhile has experience of the Tatuus-Cosworth BRDC British F3 car having tested with Hillspeed last week. The 18-year-old has raced in European and World level karting, winning the Formula 125 Junior Open Asian Karting Open Championship in 2011 and finishing as runner-up in the ROK Cup International Final in the Mini category the same year. He has subsequently raced in Europe in the WSK Euro Series and has also competed in the CIK-FIA European and World KF Championships, achieving strong results.
Richard Ollerenshaw, Team Principal of Hillspeed with Cliff Dempsey Racing, commented: “We’re obviously delighted to be fielding two cars for the Duo BRDC British F3 Autumn Trophy and very much look forward to giving Cutter and Abdullah their car racing debuts. Clearly, the step-up is a significant one for both drivers but the Autumn Trophy is a perfect opportunity for them to learn in a fully competitive environment.
“Cutter had a run in the Tatuus last week, his first experience of the latest car, and Abdullah tested the car for the first time a couple of weeks ago. There is plenty of track time available across the weekend, with pre-event testing too, so it’s a very valuable opportunity for them both to gain some vital mileage and seat time as they take their first steps in car racing.”
The 2016 Duo BRDC British Formula 3 Autumn Trophy enables drivers to get their first taste of British F3 whilst also offering additional mileage for those drivers remaining with the championship for a second campaign.
