Whiteline 22B Sprint Series Cadwell Park Review

For the third time in succession, the winners of the two classes that make up the 2016 Litchfield GT-R Sprint Series were Iain Litchfield in Class N2 - the category for cars fitted with modified turbos - and Nick Goss in N1 - the category for cars with standard specification turbos. For Goss, the final event in the 2016 calendar at Cadwell Park provided him with a full-house set of results, having achieved a six class wins out of six this year! For the drivers, the scene was set on Saturday for memorable finale to the season: a Nissan GT-R at their disposal; a dry, bright and cool Autumn day and a venue that is regarded by many as the most enjoyable to drive in the UK. The sprint course utilised almost a full lap of the 2.19-mile Lincolnshire circuit, with the start situated at the top of ‘The Mountain’ and the finish located at the bottom. The day began, as is customary, with competitors driving over the course in convoy before the first of the three practice runs that, at Cadwell Park, are an important precursor to the competitive runs. Initially it was Goss who set the overall pace, posting a time one tenth of a second quicker than Litchfield on the opening run. Standard turbo output notwithstanding, Goss maintained his position at the top of the time sheets after the second, but on the third run it was Das Kizas who edged ahead. With other competitors - albeit not those taking part in the GT-R section of the event - getting themselves involved with incidents, time was lost while cars were collected and the trackside furniture was repaired or repositioned. Consequently, organisers were forced to draw stumps following the fourth run, a consequence that was to focus the attention of the drivers for the final part of the day. Litchfield saved the best till last and in doing so, stopped the clocks with a time that was 0.81 second faster than that of Kizas, who also set his quickest time on his final outing. Although Goss’ last run was also his fastest, he was unable to hold off the two drivers with N2 Class cars, but was content to finish in third place overall and record his sixth N1 Class win in the process.Ending the day just 0.04 second behind behind Kizas in N2 was Luke Krassismenou, followed by Stuart Gold in fifth, Max Kirk in sixth and Simon Woods in seventh - all drivers in R35 versions of Nissan’s finest.Unsurprisingly, due to his 100% success record, Goss was duly awarded the season’s Class N1 title, with Kizas clinching the N2 crown from Gold following his second-placed performance at the weekend. It was another smoothly executed event by the series organisers, who were congratulated by the drivers for an enjoyable day of competitive motorsport. Plans for 2017 are currently being discussed, with an announcement due in the next few weeks. The 2016 Litchfield GT-R Sprint Series is sponsored by: Litchfield, Bilstein and Turbo Dynamics. Increasing the series’ profile this year is the addition of live commentary and video filming at every round that will be broadcast throughout the season on social media.
