Motors TV UK Weekend Highlights November 11,12,13

We’re entering into a brave new world where no Audis will compete at Le Mans, Toblerones are changing shape and the President of the United States is a former host of the Apprentice. But amid the sea of change, the vast array of top-quality motorsport on the High Speed Television Channel remains the same and true to form, there’s another superb line-up in store this weekend.

We start with live coverage of the Supercross de Paris-Lille at the magnificent Stade Pierre Mauroy. It’s just as muddy and just as noisy as regular MX, only this time staged in a fan-friendly arena environment. The crowd will be served up a right treat over Saturday and Sunday, as the top French and US riders battle tooth and nail to win the end of season bragging rights. 2015 MXGP World Champion Romain Febvre and AMA SX star Marvin Musquin will uphold local honour, while tourists Malcolm Stewart and Justin Barcia will look to take the handsome cash prize with them back across the Atlantic.

Over on the other side of the world, the Australian Supercars title battle is really beginning to hot up as the series heads to Pukekohe in New Zealand. Pre-event championship leader Shane van Gisbergen heralds from just down the road in Auckland and after wrapping up the Enduro Cup with Alexandre Premat at Surfers Paradise, he would dearly love to treat his home fans to a seventh win of the year. Determined to stop him and reclaim the lost ground in the championship is Red Bull Racing Australia team-mate Jamie Whincup, but don’t count out young Scott McLaughlin either. The Volvo driver pulled off the most brazen overtake of the year on Mark Winterbottom at the Gold Coast (look it up if you haven’t seen it!) and has a chance of becoming the first Kiwi ever to win the Jason Richards Trophy.

There’s also action from the V8 Ute Racing Series, where rough and tumble racing is ten-a-penny. This week, the action comes from Mount Panorama, Bathurst, where you can be sure there will be plenty of thrills and spills…

Next it’s over to Suzuka for the final chapter in Stoffel Vandoorne’s pre-F1 adventure in the Japanese Super Formula championship. Against all expectations, the Belgian has thrived in his new environment and heads into the decider with an outside chance of the title. The Belgian was third on his first visit to Suzuka in the first race of the year, but with Andre Lotterer, Kazuki Nakajima and defending champion Hiroaki Ishiura also in the mix, all bets are off!

There’s a quadruple bill of top sportscar racing action too, as the 2016-2017 Asian Le Mans Series kicks off in Zhuhai. With guaranteed entries for the 2017 Le Mans 24 Hours to the champions of LMP2, LMP3 and GT, the ACO-supported championship has seen a huge growth in participants for this season, attracting teams from across Asia and Europe, including Italy, the UK and even Switzerland!

If 15 GT cars aren’t enough for your taste, then make sure you tune in to watch an entire grid of GT3 cars attack the Shanghai International Circuit in the final round of the GT Asia Series. The FFF Racing Lamborghini of Edoardo Liberati and Andrea Amici are in the box seat, but will have to look over their shoulders for BBT Ferrari duo Anthony Lui and Davide Rizzo, who sit just nine points behind with 36 still to play for.

Don’t forget about Supercar Challenge either. The Dutch series is home to some of the weirdest and wackiest cars in Europe, ranging from LMP3 cars to the fan-favourite Mosler, V8 flame-spitting Volvo and the latest GT3-spec cars, which will do battle for one last time this year in Assen. Meanwhile over in Estoril, Ginetta’s fearsome G57 prototype will once again be unleashed alongside a clutch of LMP3 racers and GT cars in the final round of the V de V Endurance Series.

And as if that’s not enough, rally fans will have a chance to marvel as the heroes of the Belgian Rally Championship (plus WRC stars past and present Francois Duval, Craig Breen, Stephane Lefebvre) tackle the 43rd Rallye du Condroz, where 24 fast tarmac stages and changeable grip levels will pose a stern test for the drivers and co-drivers alike.
