for Silverstone in 2005
The British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) has announced that Silverstone will play host toan exciting new motorsport event on 4th and 5th June 2005, blending nostalgia with awealth of racing action – the Silverstone International Historic Festival.
Next year’s inaugural event will be staged on Silverstone’s world famous Grand Prixcircuit, last used for an historic motorsport event in 2001. An Historic Festival was ahallmark of the Silverstone calendar for 11 years and, since its demise, many have beencalling for the creation of a new event at the circuit.
The International Historic Festival on 4/5 June 2005 will answer the demands ofcompetitors and fans of historic motorsport alike, as well as appealing to families lookingfor a great day out. The BRDC is planning a superb line up of races and displays featuringiconic racing cars from decades gone by. Sportscars and Grand Prix cars from the Fifties,Sixties and Seventies, will mix with air displays, hot air balloons and family entertainmentto create a highlight of the British sporting summer.
Ray Bellm, Chairman of the BRDC, commented: “We are committed to establishing theSilverstone International Historic Festival as a flagship event on both the internationalhistoric calendar and Silverstone’s race calendar, recreating the wonderful atmosphere ofSilverstone’s historic background, while encouraging wheel-to-wheel action on track.”The BRDC has appointed the HSCC to administer the race organisation of theInternational Historic Festival on its behalf, under BRDC direction.
