Smith commits to Porsche for BHRC

Having taken a win and a second place on the opening two events, Steven Smith and John Nichols will now complete the Armajaro MSA British Historic Rally Championship in a Porsche 911. Last season they used a post-historic Ford Escort MK1 to win their class, but have now confirmed that they will complete the season in the historic category 911 loaned by Steve Perez. They took second place to the Sunbeam Tiger of Patrick Watts/Elgan Davies on the Robin Hood and then won the historic category on the Astra Stages, despite a strong challenge from the 911 of defending champions Dessie Nutt and Geraldine McBride."I have never been loaned a car in my life before," says Smith. "It is incredibly generous of Steve Perez to put us in a position where we can win rallies overall. I am very grateful to Steve and VK Vodka Kick for their support!"Smith will now go head to head with Nutt on the tarmac stages of Epynt on round three, the Matador Welsh International Rally on 30 April/1 May. Whilst being great rivals on the stages, Smith and Nutt are firm friends out of the car and both are relishing the prospect of continuing their battle over the remaining seven rounds of the championship."John and I had a really fraught first trip to Epynt last season in the RS2000, with two broken gearboxes and an unexpected second overall in the post-historics," says Smith. "I have used a 911 once before on tarmac, in Killarney last year. From memory, the military ranges are much faster roads, where I expect Patrick and Dessie to be in their element."
