SHELSLEY WALSH 100th ANNIVERSARY

– Less than a week to go

The final entries have just come into the Shelsley Walsh office with a works Aston Martin DBR9 as yet another fabulous addition to an already brim full entry for the Shelsley Walsh Centenary Celebrations over weekend 19th, 20th and 21st August. One of only 12 DBR9s built for competition, the car has already won its class at Sebring and been on the podium in GT1 at Le Mans. Darren Turner will drive the car up the hill.

Andy Priaulx will drive his BMW 320 ETCC winning car from 2004, whilst the current BTCC leading Honda Integra from Team Halfords will appear too.

However, the star of the show is sure to be the Auto Union D-Type that will rekindle memories of when Hans Stück drove an Auto Union at Shelsley Walsh in June 1936. He broke the record in practice, but rain on Sunday prevented the chance for the Austrian to put his name in the record books.

One of the most significant and historic cars at Shelsley Walsh for the past 60 years is ERA R4D, formerly driven by Raymond Mays and then Ken Wharton. Currently owned by Mac Hulbert, the cars in his hands holds the Pre-War Car record, but is yet an another evocative sight for every motor sport enthusiast who has seen and heard the car go up the famous Shelsley Walsh tarmac.

The cream of each class from modern 21st Century Hill Climbing will also be represented, with recently crowned 2005 British Hill Climb Champion Martin Groves looking to further lower his June 2005 record of 23.86 seconds up Shelsley Walsh.
