Dutch circuit preparing for first appearance on GT2 Europe calendar
Two 60-minute races in store for Pro-Am and Am contenders
Event runs in support of GT World Challenge powered by AWS Sprint Cup
The GT2 European Series powered by Pirelli will break new ground next weekend (16–18 May) with a first-ever trip to Zandvoort marking the second round of the 2025 season.
The 4.3km circuit on the North Sea coast becomes the 12th venue to welcome GT2 Europe since its inception in 2021 and promises to present a unique challenge. Known for its high-speed corners and limited run-off, Zandvoort rewards precise driving and should allow the powerful GT2 machines to demonstrate their capabilities.
The event will see battle resume in the Pro-Am and Am classes following last month's season opener at Circuit Paul Ricard. As ever, it will take place alongside GT World Challenge powered by AWS, which stages its second Sprint Cup event of 2025, while further action comes from the GT4 European Series powered by RAFA Racing Club and the GB3 Championship.
PRO-AM: Momentum with Mičánek after perfect debut weekend
With only one round complete, a title favourite has already emerged in Pro-Am. Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra duo Bronek Formanek and Stefan Rosina head to Zandvoort at the top of the standings following a sensational debut weekend, which saw the #11 Lamborghini pick up both race wins.
NM Racing Team also began the season in strong form, finishing third in the opening contest and then taking runner-up spot in the second outing. The Spanish pairing of Alberto De Martin and Nil Montserrat will chase victory at Zandvoort aboard the #115 Mercedes-AMG.
Mauro Calamia and Roberto Pampanini earned a podium at the opener, guiding the DINAMIC Motorsport Maserati to a third-place finish in Race 2 at Circuit Paul Ricard. Already race-winners in the series, they will hope for more success at Zandvoort.
Laura Kraihamer and Mato Homola showed pace in France, though a fourth place in Race 1 was the only reward for the #89 RTR Projects KTM X-Bow. They are capable of fighting for at least a podium in the Netherlands and, like the DINAMIC duo, could be among the contenders for Pro-Am victory.
AM: Little to choose between leading contenders after competitive opening round
While there is a clear leader in Pro-Am, the same cannot be said for the Am class. Oliver Freymuth tops the table following a victory in Race 2 at Circuit Paul Ricard, which was preceded by a run to third in the opening encounter. As such, the AKF Motorsport Lamborghini driver left France with a two-point advantage at the top of the standings.
Freymuth’s closest challenger is defending Am champion Philippe Prette (#1 LP Racing Maserati), who won the opening contest in France before taking P4 in Race 2. Given his success over the past year, Prette is expected to show well again at Zandvoort.
Akkodis ASP duo Christophe Bourret and Pascal Gibon finished as runners-up in both races at Circuit Paul Ricard, so it would not take much for the #53 Mercedes-AMG to secure a victory at Zandvoort. Petr Lisa and Ondrej Rokos (#294 RTR Projects Mercedes-AMG) scored a third-place finish at the opener and will head to the Dutch track with the aim of taking a first Am win.
The #28 TFT Racing Maserati of Patrick Charlaix and Jordan Boisson completes the grid for the upcoming event. The French drivers took a pair of top five finishes on home soil and will have the podium in their sights when battle resumes at Zandvoort.
