Formula E set to electrify the streets of London this weekend

PORSCHE AND NISSAN AIMING TO EXCEL AS REMAINING TITLE BATTLES PLAY OUT IN BRITISH CAPITAL

Teams’ and Manufacturers’ honours still hanging in the balance...

Oliver Rowland might have sewn up the coveted Drivers’ crown last time out in Berlin, but there is still plenty at stake in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship’s Season 11 finale in London this weekend (26-27 July), as Porsche and Nissan duel it out for the Teams’ and Manufacturers’ World Championships.

London first appeared on the all-electric single-seater series’ calendar during its inaugural campaign back in 2015, hosting four races in Battersea Park that year and the next before Excel reinstated the British capital on the schedule in 2021.

The 2.09km, 20-turn circuit – whose unique indoor/outdoor nature is made possible by the emissions-free nature of the cars – weaves through the international exhibition centre and around the city’s historical Royal Docklands, challenging competitors with its changes in surface, elevation and lighting.

RACE FOR THE RUNNER-UP SPOILS
Behind Rowland, there is still a tense tussle in the Drivers’ classification – with second and third places overall up for grabs and with them, the honour of attending the prestigious end-of-year FIA Awards Ceremony.

Wehrlein, impressive McLaren rookie Taylor Barnard, da Costa and Jaguar TCS Racing’s Nick Cassidy are blanketed by just 23 points in the scrap for the runner-up spoils – with 58 on offer this weekend.

Despite trailing his rivals in the standings, it is the New Zealander who enters the event with momentum on his side, having rebounded from a slow start to the season – claiming just one top ten finish from the opening six rounds – to win twice in recent races and catapult up the championship table. He also boasts the best record of the quartet around Excel, converting pole position into victory there in 2023 and similarly reaching the rostrum in 2022.

Having missed out on the title in London last year, Cassidy is out for redemption, while Barnard will be aiming to continue the strong run of British drivers in front of his home fans as the 21-year-old chases his breakthrough Formula E triumph.

PREPARING FOR BATTLE ONE LAST TIME
So who will excel on streets of London? There’s not long to wait to find out. Round 15 of the 2024/25 campaign will get underway at 17:05 BST (18:05 CEST) on Saturday, 26 July, with Round 16 bringing down the curtain on the maiden season of GEN3 Evo competition at the same time on Sunday, 27 July.

As has become customary at double-headers, the first of the two races will include the championship’s innovative Pit Boost feature, requiring all participants to make a mandatory 30-second pit-stop for a 10% rapid recharge (3.85kWh) via a 600kW booster.
