Ricardo Cordero and Marco Hernández retained their title and have now won seven medals together.
After a four-year absence, Zacatecas shone once again with the arrival of the Pan-American convoy.
After just over 4,000 kilometers of road from Chiapas to Oaxaca, Puebla, Mexico City, Querétaro, Morelia, Guanajuato, San Luis Potosí, and Zacatecas, La Carrera Panamericana came to an end and made history by celebrating eight days of competition - one more than in previous years - in which Ricardo Cordero de Ávila and Marco Antonio Hernández Valdez claimed victory in the Turismo Mayor category and in the overall results, with a lead of almost 28 seconds over their closest rivals.
Although Cordero and Hernández struggled from day one due to a broken wheel rim that put them two minutes behind Hilaire and Laura Damiron, the drivers from San Luis Potosí and Morelia managed to close the gap day by day, until they took the lead on day 5 of the competition, a position they maintained until the end of the race.
This Thursday, at the end of the last timed stage of the day, at Cerro de la Bufa, in Zacatecas, Ricardo and Marco celebrated their seventh victory in style, receiving congratulations and recognition from dozens of fans who were waiting for them.
The celebration continued until they crossed the finish line next to the Cathedral of Zacatecas, a city that welcomed the Pan American convoy with open arms after a four-year absence.
Aboard the iconic 1953 Studebaker Champion, ‘El Malditillo’, Cordero managed to equal the record set by the legendary Pierre de Thoisy almost two decades ago, while for Hernández this represents his eighth star in the legendary competition, standing out as the most successful navigator in the history of the Pana.
The podium for the 38th edition of the modern era of La Carrera Panamericana, which this year commemorated 75 years since its first start in 1950, was completed by the French-Brazilian duo of Hilaire and Laura Damiron, who took second place aboard ‘El Commander’, while Carlos Manuel ‘Char’ García and Eduardo Solís took third place in a 1953 Studebaker Champion.
