Wolk back to take on van Rooyen in a field of champions
The South African Touring Cars are primed and ready for action at Killarney’s national Extreme Festival season opener in Cape Town on Saturday 14 March. With multiple champion Robert Wolk back to take on reigning champion Michael van Rooyen in a field of champions up front, it’s also all to play for in the SATC SupaCup that is certain to crown a new champion in 2026.
Reigning champion Michael van Rooyen returns alongside GR Rookie Cup champion and SATC newcomer Jason Coetzee in a pair of Leeroy Poulter-run Gazoo Racing Toyota Corollas. The big news is, however, multiple Touring Car champion Robert Wolk returning after a season away last year.
Wolk is part of a strong three-car Investchem Volkswagen Golf GTI team alongside Touring Car veteran and Killarney home hero, Julian van der Watt. 2025 Investchem MSA4 single seater champion KC Ensor-Smith will drive the third African Heating Investchem Volkswagen Golf GTI.
Andrew Schofield is the final confirmed entry for Killarney in his familiar FlySafair Chemical Logistics Fast Racing BMW 128 ti. A second BMW 128 ti is still to be confirmed, while brothers, Saood, and Sa’aad Variawa are expected race two more Gazoo Racing Toyota Corollas when their international Rally Raid commitments permit.
Moving on to SATC SupaCup, with champion Tate Bishop moving on and runner up Jonathan Mogotsi racing abroad, it’s all to play for in the all-Volkswagen SupaPolo second division. Jason Loosemore is the only previous race winner on the entry list in his Nathan Motorsport, but he’ll have his work cut out by Nicholas Vostanis’ Campos Transport machine and Cape home hero David Franco’s Graphix design version.
Other SupaCup racers to watch out for, are Astron Energy Polo Cup champion Rory Atkinson in his prize drive Volkswagen Motorsport SupaPolo and fellow Polo graduates, AF Fans lass Tyler Robinson and Judd Bertholdt in a Sizani Plastics version. Also in with a shout, Combined Racing brothers Rick and Paulo Loureiro, are headed to the Cape alongside Niko Zafiris and Jared Rossouw.
Starting at Killarney this weekend, South African Touring Cars will race the seven rounds of the National Extreme Festival around the country through to October. Expect it to be a cracking season!
