Round five for Formula Master will start today with JD Motorsport's Chris van der Drift on the front row after the 22-year-old clinched pole with a 1:47.050 lap in today's qualifying session.
Having set a fastest lap early in the 30-minute session with a best time of 1:48.759, van der Drift broke into the 1:47s once the session was restarted following a red flag caused by Trident Racing's Alejandro Nuñez going off-track at Turn 3.
Iris Project's Michael Ammermüller will start alongside van der Drift in tomorrow's race after setting a best time of 1:47.944 whilst Jenzer Motorsport's Fabio Leimer completes the top three with his fastest lap: 1:48.425.
Arturo Llobell, driving for Cram Competition, was fourth fastest and set a best time of 1:48.542 with Euronova Racing's Yuhi Sekiguchi in fifth, completing his best lap in 1:48.631.
JD Motorsport's Vladimir Arabadzhiev qualified in sixth place with a time of 1:48.682 ahead of Trident Racing team-mates Harald Schlegelmilch and Kasper Andersen who will start the race in seventh and eighth place respectively.
With a fastest lap good enough for fourth place, Schlegelmilch's best time was disallowed, along with four other drivers', for improving their times under yellow flags in free practice earlier today. JD Motorsport's Vladimir Arabadzhiev, Pro Motorsport's Marcello Puglisi, ADM Motorsport's Norbert Siedler, Scuderia Famá's Luca Persiani and Schlegelmilch all had their best time cancelled.
National Czech drivers Filip Salaquarda, driving for ISR, and Team JVA's Josef Kral will start tomorrow's race in ninth and 13th place respectively.
Eurosport's coverage for Formula Master's race weekend in the Czech Republic, will begin Saturday 14 June with race one shown live at 12:15 (CET) on Eurosport International and Asia Pacific. Race two will be broadcast on Eurosport 2 at 18:00 (CET).
Chris van der Drift, JD Motorsport "The first half went alright but I knew we could improve. I didn't get the best lap on that set of tyres so I was looking for a good result on the second outing. I knew we were quick directly after warming up new tyres but then the session was red flagged after two laps! As soon as the lights went green I went out and got it. I was so pleased."
Michael Ammermüller, Iris Project "We were unlucky actually. It's the same as Valencia; we know we are faster but had traffic on our fast laps. On my second set of tyres, the red flag was called just as I was on my fast lap. After that, I couldn't push as much as I wanted... I'm sure we can go quicker!"
Fabio Leimer, Jenzer Motorsport "It wasn't so bad, but at the moment we are losing too much time. The biggest issue is to find the perfect set-up for the car. I have been consistent before, but this time I have made a few mistakes. We will watch the data and work out where we can gain more."
