Go Motorsport Ambassadors out in force

at the Goodwood Festival of Speed

A number of the high profile Go Motorsport Ambassadors were present at this year's magical Festival of Speed including Murray Walker, Allan McNish, Jenson Button, Damon Hill, Malcolm Wilson and Vicki Butler-Henderson.

Go Motorsport marked the occasion by announcing that Lord Charles March, the mastermind and driving force behind the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival, has agreed to join the distinguished list of official Go Motorsport Ambassadors.

"We are honoured that Lord March has agreed to join the impressive roll call of Go Motorsport ambassadors all of whom are pro-actively supporting this campaign to help people to get more involved in all aspects of motor sport," said Colin Hilton, Chief Executive of the Motor Sports Association, the governing body of UK motor sport and instigator of the Go Motorsport campaign, first ever centrally co-ordinated marketing campaign to encourage new people into motor sport.

"Few people have done more over the past decade to broaden the appeal of our sport; Lord March has not only created two world class showcases at Goodwood that celebrate both the history and diversity of automotive competition past and present, but he has also produced two remarkable events which have captured the imagination of millions around the world and delivered stunning entertainment to a new audience of motor sport enthusiasts."

Goodwood's Festival of Speed and Revival founder Lord March says "I am delighted to support this fabulous initiative to encourage more new faces into motor sport. Motor racing is one of Britain's most successful yet unsung industries, and we should all aim to work together to help promote the sport and increase awareness, enjoyment and involvement in it."

Fellow Ambassadors veteran F1 commentator Murray Walker and recent Le Mans 24 Hour race winner Allan McNish, took time out of their busy Goodwood Festival of Speed schedules to talk about the Go Motorsport campaign which aims to attract more people into motor sport, be it as competitors, spectators or volunteers.

Murray Walker commented that "many people believe that to get into motor sport is financially prohibitive, but the Go Motorsport campaign is demonstrating that this doesn't always have to be the case with the range of motor sport out there."

Murray knows that one of the most important aspects of the campaign is search for new volunteers, adding "the sport desperately needs more marshals, they are the real heroes."

Allan McNish commented "These Go Motorsport and Lets Go Karting schemes being run by the MSA are the best things that have happened in British motor sport for a long time.  We all know that the future of the sport needs to be secured."

Allan added "motor racing is great fun.  If I wasn't racing as a career then I would definitely be karting as a hobby".

The high-profile initiative, with its website GoMotorsport.net, is designed to stimulate greater interest in the sport and show a wider public audience - beyond simply motor racing enthusiasts - what a great sport it is and how easy it can be to become involved at all levels whether as a competitor, spectator, official or trackside marshal.
