Recovery for Team Rosberg in the FIA GT3 European Championship

Neustadt/Brno, 23 May – Team Rosberg based in Neustadt an der Weinstraße experienced a fair to middling weekend at the second round of the FIA GT3 European Championship at Brno, Czech Republic. In both races Kenneth Heyer/Bernd Herndlhofer clearly improved from poor grid positions by pushing to make up ground – but ultimately the negative qualifying results took their toll. The first race saw the duo in the Audi R8 LMS advance from position 25 to twelfth place, in the second race Heyer/Herndlhofer improved to 17th. Even incidents that occurred as early as in free practice prevented better results: the pairing Paolo Bonifacio/Michael Ammermüller was unable to compete during the remainder of the weekend due to a collision with rivals in which they were not at fault and the fact that the Audi R8 LMS designated as car number "4” could not be repaired on location. After an excursion and the required repair, the Heyer/Herndlhofer duo in the "sister car” lost valuable set-up time in free practice as well. "The set-up in qualifying was not optimal,” said Team Manager Peter Reinisch. "Obviously, two 25th positions are not the best starting bases for the race. From these grid positions all we could do was contain the damage.”A good start by Bernd Herndlhofer in the rain race on Saturday created the basis for the first recovery of the weekend. "Bernd Herndlhofer made up a lot of places and delivered a nice performance,” said Reinisch. "Kenneth Heyer then just had to complete it. But of course it was difficult to advance further after having started so far from the rear.” In the second race on a dry track Kenneth Heyer drove the start. "Despite body contact in turn 1 during the first part of the race Kenneth made up places and turned the car over on position 19,” continued Reinisch. "But in the second race we weren’t able to surpass ourselves either due to the poor starting base we were carrying as ballast from qualifying. Therefore, in the next races we simply have to make sure that we’ll start from more forward grid positions.”The next round of the FIA GT3 Championship will be held at Jarama, Spain, on 19 and 20 June.
