Dulux Trade MSA British Rally Championship
Round 3: Jim Clark International Rally, 28/29 May Gwyndaf Evans and Chris Patterson broke their Jim Clark International Rally duck in style this weekend, taking victory on the all-asphalt third round of the Dulux Trade MSA British Rally Championship. Evans, the 1996 champion, bounced back from a double puncture on Saturday evening, having also surviving a high-speed moment in the afternoon. At the finish in Duns he offered his thanks to a strategically placed telegraph pole that kept both car and crew on the road at 100mph, despite damaging the rear of his JR Motorsports Mitsubishi Evo X.While Evans was the eventual victor, four different drivers shared the lead over the 130 miles of ultra-fast asphalt. First blood went to Craig Breen and Gareth Roberts, before reigning champion Keith Cronin unleashed their pace on the Abbey St Bathans stage. However, his good work came undone in the darkness of the final test when he clipped a bank, leaving Breen to hold the overnight lead.Breen held on to first place until SS10, when reports came in that he had stopped with a sick engine. MSA Team UK’s Alastair Fisher thus inherited the lead, only to lose out to a charging Evans when his engine developed a misfire. Nevertheless, second place equals the Northern Irishman’s best BRC finish.Meanwhile Fisher’s cash-strapped national squad team-mate Adam Gould continued to defy the odds with a hugely impressive sixth-place finish, despite losing four minutes on Saturday with a puncture and fourth gear for the last few stages.Results1 Gwyndaf Evans / Chris Patterson, 1h54m33.5s 2 Alastair Fisher / Rory Kennedy +31.1s3 Keith Cronin / Barry McNulty +1m46.6s4 Jonathan Greer / Dai Roberts +2m44.2s5 Jason Pritchard / Robbie Durant +2m59.0s6 Adam Gould / Dave Robson +3m25.9sRound 4: Isle of Man International Rally, 8/9 July
