Cadwell Park hosts races three and four of the 2010 Porsche Club Championship season on Saturday June 5th, with Mark McAleer the main in form after winning the two opening rounds at Brands Hatch in April. The series has only visited the Lincolnshire venue once before, with both wins going to James Neal in his 964 C2, but it was McAleer’s 968 CS who set fastest lap in each race and the continuing battle between the front and rear-engined cars looks to continue unabated at the weekend.
2007 champion McAleer started off his title campaign in the best way possible, but will face some stiff challenges as his rivals get up to speed at Cadwell. The lap record holder could be under pressure from reigning champion Jez Clark, who has stepped up to Class One this season. A self-confessed fan of the Cadwell circuit, Clark was a winner there in his single-seater days, and should be more at home in his left-hand drive 968 CS at the second meeting of the year.
Class One is packed with potential winners, with the experienced regulars joined this year by drivers such as Mark Sumpter and Pete Morris returning to the Porsche racing. Sumpter is joined by Kevin Harrison and Marcus Carniel in leading the rear-engined charge, with Morris one of the numerically superior 968 runners.
Chris Dyer took a Class Two win at Brands, with Harrison taking the other as he ‘guested’ in Clarke’s Class Two championship winning car of 2009. Cieran Brewer should provide stiff opposition, with former class winner Frazer Robertson making his season debut in the class in his 944 S2.
Qualifying on Saturday morning is at 09.30, with the opening race at 13.05 and the second 25-minute race at 17.35.
