COVENTRY skipper Chris Harris is determined to retain his British title at Wolverhampton on Monday.Harris won the first of his two national crowns at Monmore Green in 2007 before triumphing at Poole last year.He goes into the meeting in good form after his superb third-place finish in last weekend's Danish Grand Prix - but five-times winner Scott Nicholls is sure to be a big threat to Harris's hopes.Harris said: "The next big one is my British title. I want to keep that andI feel I can do it in the form I am in at the moment."I've got to keep going and I'll just knuckle down and keep concentrating. Ihope to go to Wolves on Monday and, with the support of the Coventry fans, retain my title. It's a big thing to be British Champion and I want to do it again."

EDINBURGH maintained their position at the top of the Premier League with a hard-fought 51-39 home win over Workington. The Monarchs were missing riders due to the World Championship qualifiers this weekend but guests David Howe and William Lawson both performed well, and skipper Matthew Wethers won three races. Promoter Alex Harkess said: "It was an interesting match and we had to work very hard. Full marks to Workington for giving us such a good match, they have a decent side."

FORMER Somerset rider Justin Sedgmen returned to haunt his old club as Birmingham gained a vital Premier League away win.Sedgmen top-scored for the Brummies with 13 points in their 48-42 win at the Oak Tree Arena, a result which was all the more impressive because free-scoring skipper Jason Lyons crashed out in the first race. Lyons, who tangled with Lubos Tomicek, now faces a race against time to befit for the local derby against Stoke on Wednesday.Brummies owner Gary Patchett said: "Jason hurt his hand and had some discomfort from his pelvis."But straight away he was saying how he felt not too bad considering the crash and he's hopeful of being fit for Wednesday."

GLASGOW have made John Branney the third new face in their mid-season re-shuffle.Branney, who lost his place at Workington earlier in the week, was quickly snapped up by the Tigers following the completion of Anders Andersen'sshort-term deal.He joins former British Champion Joe Screen and Australian youngster Nick Morris in making his debut for the club this weekend. Co-promoter Alan Dick said: "We really do need a lift and hopefully these new faces will allow that to happen. We have perhaps lost a little of the balance of our side since Robert Ksiezak's injury and we are still in the same boat of having an imbalance. "However these changes should at least give us a little more consistency in the middle order, while the signing of Screenie will be so important, not just on the track, but he is sure to be a great influence on the youngerlads."

NEWCASTLE have signed Anders Andersen to replace long-term injury victim Adam McKinna. The Dane, who started the season at Berwick, has just completed a 28-dayspell with Glasgow and moves to Brough Park with McKinna suffering a cracked bone in his neck. And Andersen is already looking forward to linking up with fellow countrymen Kenni Larsen and Rene Bach in the Diamonds' squad. Manager George English said: "Anders comes in to our side at just the right time, although the circumstances are not as we'd have liked with injuries forcing change, but this Dane can do the business. He's a good professional and a determined guy."
