McLeod shortens gap in standings

Aaron Filgueira took a sensational maiden win in the the European F3 Open after winning race 2 in Spa-Francorchamps with great authority. The young driver of Drivex gave a demonstration of his talent, despite being at the wheel of a Cup car.

Second position was for Callum McLeod, which allows the British driver of West-Tec to shorten the gap in the championship standings with respect to his main rival, Marco Barba, today 4th and still leader but with only 5 points now. Third was Toño Fernández (Hache Team).

After the typical agitation of the start, Abadín took the lead, ahead of Fernández and Muñoz, while Fumanelli went off. Behind the leading trio, McLeod, Filgueira, Barba, Correa, Ceccon and Bulnes. In lap 2, there is a contact between Abadin and Muñoz: the former loses some positions, the latter has to retire, as does shortly after Jammal, who was eighth.

Both the leader, Fernández, and the third, McLeod, are under attack in separate duels, from Filgueira and Barba respectively, but they manage to keep their positions until lap 6 when Filgueira overtakes Fernández at Les Combes and from the outside.  Correa, Abadín and Ceccon slowly re-join the leading quartet. In lap 7, a little contact between McLeod and Barba forces the spaniard to lift up, while in lap 10, McLeod manages to pass Fernández for second at Les Combes and Bulnes and Sistos collide at the same place. In the last lap, Barba tries a last attack on Fernández while having at the same time to defend himself from the attacks of Abadín, Correa and Ceccon, but the positions will not change.
