(SPEEDWAY 1)JOHN Perrin, the Belle Vue promoter from 1988 to 2005, has died suddenly at his Salford home. He was 68.John was a leading member of the consortium which saved the club by taking it to its current home at the Kirkmanshulme Lane greyhound track after the famous old Hyde Road stadium had been sold by the late Stuart Bamforth in 1987.Subsequently, he became the Aces' figurehead promoter during the 1990s and through the turn of the century before selling the club to Midland businessman Tony Mole.John, who led the Aces for 17 years, will be credited by many as the man who kept the famous old club alive. His greatest success as promoter was when the Aces won the League championship in 1993 with a shock win at Wolverhampton.He leaves his wife, Trish, daughter Veronica (Ronny) and granddaughter Poppy.(SPEEDWAY 2)BRITISH Speedway Chairman Alex Harkess has paid tribute to former Belle Vue boss John Perrin who has sadly died at the age of 68.Said Harkess: "John was a very good friend of mine on a personal basis and also a good friend of Edinburgh Speedway."He was always outspoken and stuck to his beliefs where the hierarchy were concerned but the man had a heart of gold he is a very sad loss.
