Sébastien Loeb has maintained his position at the head of the leaderboard after the second day of competition in Rally Bulgaria. Unlike yesterday, where he took a clean sweep of fastest times, the Frenchman has won only one of the day’s six stages but still has a 40.5 second lead with just four stages remaining on Sunday. Team-mate Dani Sordo and Citroën C4 privateer Petter Solberg continue to hold second and third respectively.Today’s route was scheduled to take in two loops of three identical stages covering 140.90 competitive kilometres. However, SS7 was cancelled due to the volume of spectators flocking to the end of the stage. Localised rain and fog greeted the crews this morning and tyre choice has proved critical throughout the day. For the opening loop of stages, the Citroëns reigned supreme on the soft compound while the Ford drivers lost out on hard compound tyres as the roads proved drier than expected. As a consequence, sixth placed Sébastien Ogier was able to overhaul both Hirvonen and Latvala in the first stage alone.Sordo took honours in the following stage but it has been Petter Solberg who has set the pace this afternoon. After changing some settings on his C4 WRC at the mid-day service, the Norwegian set fastest times in stages 8, 9 and 10 to close the gap to Sordo to just 4.7 seconds this evening. While the Fords of Hirvonen and Latvala have been closer to the Citroëns this afternoon, the Finns are simply unable to match their pace. Latvala’s charge was also hampered by broken power steering this afternoon. The remaining top 10 positions are unchanged from yesterday.Rally Bulgaria - Top Ten after Day 2
