in The Green Insurance Company sponsored race
This weekend, motorcycle racer Jim Lovell, 18, from Poole, won the first UK round of the world's first all-electric motorcycle championship, the TTXGP, at Snetterton race circuit in Norfolk.
The championship, sponsored by The Green Insurance Company, saw Jim take the honours for Tork India in a close battle between Team Agni riders Rob Moon and Jenny Tinmouth, who went on to take second and third place respectively. Further races will be run at Angelsey (24 and 25 July), Donington Park (20 and 21 August) and Brands Hatch (2 and 3 October) and will be shown on ESPN UK at 9pm on Thursday evenings after race weekends throughout the summer.
As part of its sponsorship, The Green Insurance Company will also reward the fastest speed recorded by any of the competitors during each round and the overall winner will be awarded free entry into the tournament next year. This weekend Jim took the Green Speed award with a lap record of 1 minute and 27.6 seconds with the fastest lap speed of 80.22mph.
Ten teams are competing this year, including Team ManTTX Racing with well-known Isle of Man TT rider James McBride and Morris Motorcycles with 'Rally Princess' Annie Seel. There were also students from both Kingston and London Imperial Universities and Staff Sergeant Pete Ward of the Queen Royal Hussars.
To qualify for the new series, all entrants must also boast zero toxic and noxious emissions from their machines. All teams compete the three regional events collecting points in North America, UK (Northern Europe) and Italy (Southern Europe).
The fastest eight teams from each regional will win a place at the final in Albacete, Spain on the 23 and 24 October. To learn more about the 2010 TTXGP, visit egrandprix.com. To find out more about The Green Insurance Company or to get a quote visit greeninsurancecompany.co.uk
