(SPEEDWAY 1)LAKESIDE reserve Paul Hurry's season is over following a grasstrack crash in France over the weekend.Hurry suffered fractures to both of his legs although he has already stated his determination to return to racing in 2011.Hammers boss Jon Cook said: "This is a terrible blow to Paul and we wish him well in making a full and speedy recovery in time for next season. "It's a huge shame that he should suffer another bad injury coming after a bright start to the season wrecked by a hand injury caused when Poole's Jason Doyle crashed in front of him in the Pirates' League fixture back in May at our Raceway. "Paul's form hadn't recovered from that crash but he still had my support and was in the team for this week's home League meeting with Swindon, although we both knew he needed a good meeting."

(SPEEDWAY 2)EDINBURGH have taken a giant step towards the Premier League title with a big away win at their closest rivals Newcastle. The Monarchs won 51-41 at Brough Park on Sunday as the Diamonds suffered a disaster with two of their riders failing to complete the meeting.Derek Sneddon suffered lower back damage in a collision with team-mate Kenni Larsen, whilst Larsen himself was ruled out with an elbow injury after a third-ride fall.Kevin Wolbert and Andrew Tully took the match to the home side and both finished with paid-13 scores for the league leaders, recording some of the fastest times of the season at Newcastle.Delighted Monarchs boss John Campbell said: "In football parlance you would have described the match as a four pointer but in speedway terms it's even more than that, it was a seven pointer. We've gained four and they've lost three."

KING'S Lynn have completed astonishing mid-season team re-build - with no fewer than five riders set to make their home debuts on Tuesday. The Stars have now confirmed the signing of Adam Roynon, who rode in their defeat at Workington on Saturday having replaced Joe Haines. In addition, King's Lynn have now signed former GB international Olly Allen as their new No.1 and Danish youngster Lasse Bjerre, whilst Jamie Courtney and Cal McDade are the two new reserves.Out of the side with Haines are Casper Wortmann, Chris Mills, the injured Kevin Doolan and the unwell Darren Mallett - leaving Tomas Topinka and Kozza Smith as the only riders retained. Promoter Buster Chapman said: "I feel we have been so successful for such a long period that we all started to take winning for granted. And even though we started the season off really well, the home matches against Newport and Edinburgh made reality slap us in the face and show us that winning really isn't that easy and you have to be on top of your game at all times. "So obviously we have gone out and done something about it, but we felt it was beyond a quick fix so we decided to replace a total of five of the seven riders, though two of those were forced."I promised the fans changes but they probably didn't expect five new faces.Obviously it is hard making the decision to drop riders like Chris and Casper but we have to have one eye on the future as well as now."

REDCAR have moved quickly to snap up British Under-21 Champion Joe Haines following his release from King's Lynn.Haines replaces Ben Wilson in the Bears team with the Teesside club hoping the Wolves asset can build on his 7.49 average, which is already improved on last year.Bears boss Brian Havelock said: "Ben seems to have suffered a loss of confidence and form since his horrific crash at Berwick in May. We talked it over with him last Thursday and he said he understood that the club would have to take decisions like this."Joe was outstanding when he rode for Kings Lynn at the Motorpark in mid-July despite all the speculation about his future."

NATIONAL League Champions Bournemouth have made wholesale changes - headlined by the return of 2009 team member Jerran Hart following the closure of Mildenhall. The Buccaneers, who are now very much back in the play-off race, have also signed James Sarjeant and Danny Stoneman in a re-shuffle which sees Karl Mason, Daniel Halsey and John Resch released.Team boss Garry May said: "We have been given a real opportunity now to make the play-offs and once in it we would certainly want to go all the way. "Jerran is a proven points scorer home and away and we felt that we just couldn't overlook the chance to bring him back. He is really keen to come back to Bournemouth and try and play his part in us defending our league title. "That said, it is hard on Karl, Dan and John who, because of the averages become victims of circumstances and it was not the sort of news we really wanted to break to them."(FIXTURES) MONDAY AUGUST 9:SKY SPORTS ELITE LEAGUE: Belle Vue v Peterborough 7.30, Wolverhampton v Coventry 7.30 PREMIER LEAGUE: Somerset v Glasgow 7.30 TUESDAY AUGUST 10:PREMIER LEAGUE: King's Lynn v Redcar 7.30 NATIONAL LEAGUE: Isle of Wight v Dudley 7.30 WEDNESDAY AUGUST 11:SKY SPORTS ELITE LEAGUE: Poole v Swindon 7.30 PREMIER LEAGUE: Birmingham v Sheffield 7.30 NATIONAL LEAGUE: Bournemouth v Dudley (follows Poole fixture)
