Another young talent joins the Auto GP grid: thanks to an agreement with DAMS, Kevin Korjus will race in Oschersleben, the fifth round of the Championship.
The Estonian driver will take the wheel of the #2 car, the one usually driven by Rio Haryanto: the Indonesian driver has a clashing commitment (GP3 in Budapest) on the same weekend, so this was the right chance for Kevin to jump in the car. For DAMS this will mean switching from one talent to another, because if there’s no doubt that Haryanto is among the most interesting young drivers from the Asian area, the same can be said of Korjus in European motorsport.
At just 18, the young Estonian’s CV is already very interesting. He started single-seater racing in 2008 and immediately was among the quickest guys around. If talent-scouts quickly spotted his skills, his growth was just as quick as in 2010 he had already won the F.Renault 2.0 Eurocup title. For 2011 he opted for a World Series debut, and he was again staggering, clinching three wins and one podium finish, really impressive results for a rookie.Enzo Coloni: “One of Europe’s best motorsport talents joins our grid, I can only be delighted by that, also because it confirms that Auto GP has a strong appeal on some very different kinds of drivers, from veterans with many wins behind them to young guns like Korjus. I’m pretty curious to see how Kevin will cope with his Auto GP debut: he already showed that he’s talented and that he can adapt very quickly to new cars and situations, and DAMS will provide him a top car, so I won’t be surprised if he will be quick from scratch”. Kevin Korjus: “I am really glad that DAMS have given me the opportunity to race next weekend in Oschersleben. I know that the series has an high level and it is a first time for me with DAMS and with the Auto GP car, so for sure it will be hard, but I hope we will be competitive and we can make some good results. I am really looking forward to it”.
