Atech CRS GP demonstrates continuing GP3 progress

Atech CRS GP demonstrated its continuing progress in round five of the GP3 Series in Hungary, overcoming ever-changing weather conditions, to take a race one finish just outside the top 10.  Swiss-Filipino Marlon Stockinger qualified fastest of the Atech trio and improved by five places from his grid spot to finish 12th.

The Leicestershire-based team’s strong showing in race one also saw impressive charges through the pack from Zoel Amberg and Nick Yelloly, the pair passing four cars apiece in Saturday’s dry race one, to finish 15th and 21st respectively.

Sunday’s race two was held under different conditions, after rain soaked the track, forcing the 30-car field to start on wets. A superb start by Yelloly saw him take seven places on the opening lap while Stockinger didn’t make the best of getaways, and locked his rear tyres at turn four, pitching him into a spin.

Amberg was unable to improve on his start position but finished first of the team drivers in 16th, just ahead of a recovering Stockinger. There was disappointment for Yelloly however, who after a great performance on lap one, was forced into retirement on lap two when he lost drive.

Nick Yelloly: “We just didn’t get the time out of the car in qualifying, which here is a major problem as overtaking is so very difficult. Starting so far back for race one meant it was difficult to make much progress through the field, although I did manage to improve on my grid position. In the second race I made a good start, the car was good and I got up to 14th on the opening lap, but on lap two I lost drive ”

Marlon Stockinger: “Race one was OK, I good a start and the car was very good in dry conditions, particularly up to the last four laps or so when I began to struggle a bit with rear tyres. But, after Germany, it was nice to get to the finish! In the second race I had a horrible first lap, and didn’t make the best of the car, then I made a mistake at Turn 4, which dropped me down. The car was good again though, in the wet, but the conditions were very tricky.”
