Can Aaron ‘Steele’ the challenge win at penultimate MSV F3 Cup round? The Sunoco GRAND-AM 200 Challenge could come to a head this weekend at the penultimate MSV F3 Cup round at Silverstone. If F3 Cup driver Aaron Steele can keep up his fantastic form and score just 58 points it will give him a high enough lead so that no one else can catch him.Adrian Churchill from Dunlop Production Touring Cars raced in his last round this weekend at Croft and has finished the season on an impressive 93 average points. Luke Caudle from MINI Challenge is currently in third and Stephen Treherne from Legends is in fourth; both still have rounds to go but even with maximum points their final score can only be increased to 93.3, meaning Aaron needs to just have an average score of 93.4 (which can be done by scoring 58 points over this weekend) to clinch the win. From the first F3 Cup round at Snetterton where Aaron took a clean sweep of 2 pole positions, 2 fastest laps and 2 wins he has shown an extraordinary level of driving and has won 11 out of 14 races; It is this consistency which has put him at the top of the leader board. There are a number of ways Aaron can score the 58 points this weekend. Setting pole and finishing fourth or higher in the first race will give Steele the points however if Aaron misses out on pole he could score points for fastest lap and finish fourth or higher – there also the necessary points up for grabs for finishing first or second. If for any reason this does not happen then race 2 could also provide the points or the next round at Oulton Park.
“Winning the Sunoco GRAND-AM 200 Challenge would be a great achievement but more importantly a great opportunity to advertise my abilities on a whole new stage at what will be one of the world’s premier motorsport events of 2012. I am going to be pushing really hard at Silverstone and will be doing everything I can to gain the extra points.” Aaron SteeleThis weekend saw British Formula 3 driver Felipe Nasr win the Sunoco Daytona Challenge and to give more racers the opportunity to race at Daytona the Sunoco GRAND-AM 200 Challenge was launched this year. The ultimate prize is a race-seat in the Continental Series GS class in the same weekend as the Rolex 24. As the name implies this is a 200 mile race and driver changes are compulsory. The race is being held on the Friday before the Rolex 24 so it comes with all the razzmatazz of the Rolex race.Included in the prize is travel, hotel and the cost of the seat so the only thing that the winner has to do is to bring his helmet and overall. The driver who wins the challenge will gain the full American experience and be racing in an American muscle car such as a V8 powered Chevrolet Camero.
