EASTBOURNE boss Trevor Geer says confidence at Arlington is high ahead of the first leg of the Elite League Grand Final against Poole on Monday. The Eagles overcame Lakeside in a hard-fought semi-final to set up the South coast showdown in their bid to take the title for the first time since 2000.Geer said: “It was a fantastic performance to get us through to the Final. Every team member worked so hard and we deserve to be in the Final. After all, we were either first or second in the league table for much of the season.“I really do believe we can go on now and win the championship. We beat Poole twice on aggregate this year in the league fixtures so we know we have a good chance.”

JOSH Auty’s last-gasp pass of Richard Lawson saw Sheffield through to a dramatic 46-44 win over Workington in a Premier League thriller at Owlerton. Both sides established clear leads during the meeting, with Sheffield losing Ricky Ashworth (arm injury) early on – but they went into the last race all-square with Auty salvaging the all-important third place on the run to the line despite a 15-metre handicap for touching the tapes.Tigers boss Eric Boocock said: “I think a draw would have been a fair result really, but we’re happy with two points. I actually felt sorry for Workington to be honest because they didn’t deserve to lose, but that’s the way it goes sometimes. "We shouldn’t have got ourselves in to the situation we did, but Shane (Parker) and Josh did the business at the end and we’ll take the win.”

STOKE and Mildenhall resume rivalries this weekend with a two-legged encounter in the semi-finals of the National League play-offs.The two clubs fought out an eventful KO Cup clash at West Row last Sunday and now meet again with a Final tie against Belle Vue or Scunthorpe/Sheffield awaiting the winners.Stoke boss Malcolm Vasey said: “We will be looking to hit Mildenhall early on and open up a lead. They are a very good side and we will need to be at our best. I’m sure there will be some fantastic racing and supporters will be in for a treat.”Fen Tigers skipper Jack Hargreaves said: “The boys did well at Stoke in the Fours, so if we can do that again and keep things tight, with the second leg at home we'll know exactly what's required. Considering we only came together as a team at the last minute, whatever happens we've had a great year, and we could still do the double!”
