BRITISH Youth co-boss Phil Morris says he has seen promising signs from several of the country’s up-and-coming riders this season. The race is on to be crowned British Under-21 Champion in Tuesday’s Dudley-staged showpiece, and there are also four qualifying places available to join Kyle Newman in the World Under-21 rounds.Morris said: “Of the more immediate ‘senior’ guys what has been encouraging is to see the likes of Jason Garrity, Kyle Howarth and the Worrall brothers performing so well for their Premier League clubs.“The event is wide open this year and that means there is a big chance for one of the young lads to win themselves a National title.”(SPEEDWAY 2)
WORKINGTON star Kenny Ingalls has lost his fitness battle with a shoulder injury and will miss the Comets’ weekend action.Ingalls will sit out matches at Edinburgh and at home to Newcastle having targeted the trip to Armadale for his return, but the American needs a little more time.Comets boss Tony Jackson said: “After chatting with Kenny, who has been having regular physiotherapy on his shoulder, it became clear that although he now has full movement in his shoulder the strength is not quite there yet. “He is not far away from fitness but this weekend has come just a few days too early in his recovery process, so unfortunately we will once again have to use rider replacement to cover for him.”(SPEEDWAY 3)
GLASGOW co-promoter Alan Dick says this weekend’s fixture against Sheffield is important as the Scottish side look for greater consistency ahead of the Premier League campaign. The two sides became fierce rivals last year and Glasgow expect to welcome back Australian youngster Jayden O’Malley after a recent injury lay-off.Dick said: “Our team have been very inconsistent so far this season with one excellent performance allied to a couple of frustrating ones, so this is their chance to get the season up and running. “We will expect our reserves to get amongst the points this time out, they have been a little frustrating so far, but this is the type of meeting that I think will suit them.”

MILDENHALL expect to be at full-strength for their opening National League fixture of the season at Buxton on Sunday. The Fen Tigers, who narrowly missed out on the title in 2011, should have teenage reserve Josh Bates available after a heavy fall in the KO Cup win over King’s Lynn last weekend.Co-promoter Michael Lee said: “Josh is confident he'll be ready. It was a relief when we found out his shoulder wasn't broken or dislocated, as he took quite a tumble. But he is a tough and determined young man, and he knows the Buxton circuit well, so it'll be good to have him back.“Buxton is a tricky place to go if you don't ride it regularly. The worst thing we could do would be to underestimate them, as time and time again they've shown they can take on and beat the best around their own track.”(FIXTURES)
