RICHIE Worrall and Tom Perry have joined Kyle Newman in the World Under-21 semi-finals after a successful qualifier in Holland on Saturday.Worrall only missed out on overall meeting victory in a run-off with Przemyslaw Pawlicki, whilst Perry picked up eighth place – and Worrall’s brother Steve took the reserve spot from the Croatian qualifier.GB Youth co-boss Phil Morris said: “Richie was fantastic and is Great Britain’s first rider in a while that can mix it with Poland’s best like he did with the Pawlicki brothers. He’s on the road to big things.“Tom had some bike problems but still managed to tie on seven points with Alex Davies for the last qualifying spot.”

FINNISH reserve Timo Lahti was the Eastbourne hero with a paid-18 haul as the Eagles overcame Swindon 51-39.Lathi was involved in 5-1s in each of the last two races at Arlington, teaming up with Cameron Woodward and then guest Scott Nicholls to send the Robins to their second defeat in two nights.Eastbourne boss Trevor Geer said: “We expected the toughest of meetings against Swindon, a team who have already won away this season, and that is exactly what we got.“With a reserve like Peter Kildemand going so well in the early stages, winning his first three races, we could easily have been up against it but we had our own star reserve in the guise of Timo Lahti who romped home in his final three rides to win us the meeting. I couldn’t be more pleased with him and the rest of the lads right now.”

RYE House No.1 Charlie Gjedde was pleased to recover from ignition problems last week to lead the Rockets to a hefty home win over Leicester. The Hoddesdon side won the League Cup match 58-34 with Gjedde dropping only one point, and although they cannot qualify for the semi-finals the Dane believes the signs for the future are positive. He said: “We worked really hard to sort out the problems, and it worked. But really it was the team effort that mattered most. “Regardless of the individual results, we are still determined to have a shot at winning every match, and every trophy, that we can. We’ll certainly be taking that approach into the Cup matches against Edinburgh.”

SCUNTHORPE boss Richard Hollingsworth remained philosophical about his side’s KO Cup exit at the hands of Workington. The Scorpions held the Comets to a six-point margin at Derwent Park on Saturday but were unable to repair the damage done by a 46-44 home defeat in the first leg.Hollingsworth said: “I’m proud of the display by the team. To contain Workington to within six points around here is a fine performance; there won’t be that many teams who get that close around Workington this year, because the Comets are a quality side.“I’ve been pleased with the team ethic over both meetings. The tie was lost in the first leg, with the engine failures we suffered and the effect of the rain on track conditions. Those scuppered us, and made all the difference to the aggregate score.”
