WORKINGTON fought back from an early nine-point deficit to defeat fellow Premier League hopefuls Somerset by a single point in a thriller at Derwent Park. The Comets won 45-44 with Adam Roynon snatching a crucial third place from Sam Masters on the last bend of the last race to snatch victory.Workington boss Tony Jackson said: We knew it was going to be tough against a solid-looking Rebels side, especially as we were operating rider replacement and had a guest in our line-up. When we went nine points down after five heats and then still trailed by seven points with just six races to go things didnt look good for us, but the boys dug deep and pulled off a fantastic comeback. Adam Roynon was again outstanding and not only did he get the vital point in Heat 15 but he also knocked 0.2 of a second off Jason Lyons two-year-old track record when he won his opening ride!

STOKE reserve Ben Reade kept up his remarkable run of form with a seven-ride paid maximum in the Potters win over the Isle of Wight.Reade scored 17 (paid 21) and No.1 Ashley Birks was also unbeaten from five rides as the Potters moved above the Islanders in the National League table with their 58-37 victory at Loomer Road.Stoke boss Malcolm Vasey said: Ben and Ashley are in phenomenal form at the moment, they are terrific lads and I'm glad that they are with us. We had the misfortune of losing Richie Worrall - imagine if he had been here, I'm sure we could have possibly hit sixty points.Ross Walter will have gained some confidence with two paid wins, and I'm really pleased with Liam Carr as when some senior riders were kicking the track and looking around he followed Ben home in Heat 2.
